    • PURPOSE:To achieve the improvement in response speed and evenness of display by defining the angle that the molecular axes of liquid crystal and dyes and the normal of transparent electrodes assume to the specific range in the state where no voltage is applied. CONSTITUTION:Diagonal vapor deposition of electrodes is done on transparent electrodes, after which orientation treatment is applied so that the angle theta that the molecular axes of guest and host and the normal of the transparent electrodes 2 assume is 3-30 deg. when there is no applied voltage. The transparent glass substrates 1 are then parallel disposed at the specified spacing in such a manner that the surfaces of the transparent electrodes oppose to each other. The mixture of dichromatic dyes 5 and nematic liquid crystal 4 is put between these substrates and the assembly is sealed by a spacer 3. With this constitution, the molecular axes of guest and host remain stable not in the direction perpendicular to the glass substrates 1 but in a state inclined by the angle theta thereto where no voltage is applied and therefore the moving directions of the molecular axes of guest and host when voltage is applied coincide, as a result of which response speed increases and the even display free from variable densities is obtainable.

    • PURPOSE:To recuce the influence of coloring due to optically rotatory dispersion and to obtain a high-contrast vivid display by using a polarizing plate having a specific transmittance and a colored plate having a specific light-transmittable property. CONSTITUTION:The transmittance of linearly polarizing plates 5 and 6 of a TN liquid crystal cell is 45-60%, and a characteristic where the light having >=500nm wavelength is transmitted is given to a colored plate 7 arranged at the rear of the rear polarizing plate 6. Two layers of these TN liquid crystal cells are provided, and one of them is used as negative-positive inverting cell where a common electrode 8c is provided on the overall region of a substrate glass 8b. By polarizing plates 5 and 6 of this constitution, the background is not dark, and a display pattern is displayed with black. An amber color having a high display effect is obtained by the colored plate 7. When this TN liquid crystal cell is doubled and an electric field is applied to the inverting cell 8, a negative display, namely, an amber color pattern on the black background is obtained; and when the electric field is cut off, a positive display is obtained. Thus, a high-contrast and sharp display is attained, and a high contrast is attained in positive and negative displays.

    • PURPOSE:To produce liquid crystal cells which have high performance and less variance in performance with high productivity, by using a liquid-crystal container which has an opening part for liquid crystal cell insertion and a liquid crystal pool part under the opening part. CONSTITUTION:A pan 30 for implanting liquid crystal into liquid-crystal cells 1 has the opening part 31 wherein plural liquid crystal cells 1 arranged in a cassette 2 are inserted at a time at the upper part, and the pool part 32 for the liquid crystal 4 at the lower part. While the liquid crystal group 1 is inserted in the pan 30 in such a way that their implanting openings face the opening part 31, the whole is evacuated by an evacuating device to a vacuum state and then rotated by about 90 deg., and the cells are released from the vacuum state to the atmospheric pressure to charge the liquid crystal cells 1 with the liquid crystal 4 in a suctional state. Then, the whole is rotated gently and the liquid crystal cell group 1 is taken out of the pan 30 together with the cassette 2, thus completing the charging process.
