    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston-cylinder unit which is constituted simply, but nevertheless lockable or releasable from a lockup, according to need only when required. SOLUTION: The piston-cylinder unit comprises a lockup pipe 5 surrounding a cylinder device 1. A first end region 6 of the lockup pipe 5 is rotatably supported between a lockup-releasing position coaxial with the piston rod 3 in the free-end region of the piston rod 3 and a lockup-position longitudinally tilted relative to the piston rod.
