    • PURPOSE:To prevent underground water from penetrating into the bottom of an underground tank by providing a freezing pipe near the contact area between a skeleton concrete of the underground tank and the ground to freeze the surrounding concrete and ground by circulating nonfreezing low temperature fluid. CONSTITUTION:A freezing pipe 11 is laid near the contact area between a bottom plate 7 of an underground tank of concrete and the ground 5 comprising a water-impermeable layer along the circumference of the plate 7. Next, a nonfreezing low temperature fluid such as a water solution of ethylene glycol is circulated through the pipe 11 to freeze the concrete and ground around the pipe 11 to obtain a frozen part 13, thus preventing the underground water from penetrating into the bottom of the tank. As a result, water stopping can be surely achieved. And since the concrete and ground having large specific heat is located deep in the ground and frozen, once the concrete and ground have been frozen, a large amount of heat is not required to keep the frozed state. Particularly in the case that, as is the case of an LNG underground tank, the ground around the tank has been cooled by the cold load of LNG, required amount of heat is small and hence a refrigerator 15 of small capacity can be used.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive underground cryogenic tank of high reliability, capable of ensuring the airtightness by welding a roof mounted on a side wall, to an airtight member mounted inside of an apex of a side wall and having a lower end buried in a side wall to be overlapped to a frost line. SOLUTION: A cryogenic liquid tank 1 comprises a side wall 5 made of reinforced concrete, a heat insulating material 19 mounted inside of a bottom plate and a membrane 17, and an inner side wall steel plate 21 is mounted inside of an apex part of the side wall 5. The heat insulating material 19 is made of hard urethane foam or the like, and has a structure for sealing the inert gas, discharging oxygen, and preventing the entering of the air from the external. A steel roof 3 and the inner side wall steel plate 21 are bonded by welding, and its lower end is fixed to the side wall 5 by embedding or the like, and overlapped to a frost line 23. Whereby the airtight structure can be ensured by the freezed side wall 5, the inner side wall steel plate 21 and the steel roof 3. An area of the inner side wall steel plate 21 can be reduced, the high airtight structure of high reliability can be obtained with the low cost, and the maintenance such as the coating or the like becomes unnecessary.
