摘要： A gas separation and detection tool for performing in situ analysis of borehole fluid is described. A separation system such as a membrane is employed to separate one or more target gasses from the borehole fluid. The separated gas may be detected by reaction with another material or spectroscopy. When spectroscopy is employed, a test chamber defined by a housing is used to hold the gas undergoing test. Various techniques may be employed to protect the gas separation system from damage due to pressure differential. For example, a separation membrane may be integrated with layers that provide strength and rigidity. The integrated membrane separation may include one or more of a water impermeable layer, gas selective layer, inorganic base layer and metal support layer. The gas selective layer itself can also function as a water impermeable layer. The metal support layer enhances resistance to differential pressure. Alternatively, the chamber may be filled with a liquid or solid material.

摘要： The present invention provides an electrochemical sensor having a solid electrically conductive substrate and a compound immobilized thereon which has binding affinity for an analyte species to be detected and also displays electrochemical behaviour which is modified upon binding of that analyte species, so that binding of an analyte species can be detected by measuring electrochemical properties, such as by voltammetry. Desirably the immobilised compound contains both a first moiety with binding affinity for the analyte and a separate second moiety which is a redox system whose electrochemical oxidation/reduction properties become modified when the first moiety binds the analyte. The analyte binding moiety may be a diol or polyol and preferably is a sugar. The electrochemical sensor finds use in methods of analysing reservoir and process fluids, particularly at a subterranean location. The electrochemical sensor may be a component of a downhole tool, adapted for deployment downhole.

摘要： A composition flowing along an elongate conduit to a location accessed by that conduit contains a precursor substance which, arriving at the location, is converted electrochemically to chemically reactive intermediate. This intermediate reacts with another constituent of the composition, thereby bringing about a change in the composition. The reactive intermediate may be a cross-linking agent for a polymeric constituent of the composition so that the electrochemical reaction and subsequent cross-linking increases the viscosity of the composition as it arrives at the location where it is required.

摘要： An electrochemical sensor incorporates a ferrocenophane which is a compound with at least one bridging group covalently attached to and connecting the two cyclopentadiene rings associated with the same iron atom.
