These signals are continued until the fencing figures are removed to remote locations at which point the signals are terminated. After a hit has been made by one figure, facilities are provided for preventing the development of sword touch sounds after the hit and prior to the separation of the figures to their remote locations. Also, after a hit has been made by one figure, facilities are provided for preventing the other figure from thereafter producing a hit upon his opponent.

    • A counting device with ball actuated, aligned, rotatable indicating elements is disclosed that is particularly useful as a clock. The device includes a plurality of indicating elements rotatable around parallel axes, arranged side by side in three columns. Each indicating element includes a display portion and a ball actuated flange, mounted on a common axle with the flanges of adjacent elements in each column forming a ball conveying track. The elements are successively rotated to the upward display position by a ball whose continued presence atop an element's flange causes an appropriate rotation of that element. The balls are continuously recycled by a synchronous motor elevator which collects the balls at their lowest position and returns them to their highest position in communication with the ball conveying tracks. After all of the indicating elements in a column have been raised to their display position, the ball resets the first rotated element causing it to reset the adjacent elements. In this way the elements are returned to their downward position by a domino effect.

    • An apparatus for creating designs on a substrate such as a sheet of paper includes a frame with a platen mounted on the top thereof. The platen is loosely mounted for vibratory movement relative to the frame. A drive cam, through a link system, is connected to the platen to slowly move the platen in one direction and then rapidly move the platen in a directly opposite direction. A writing implement, such as a pen or pencil, is mounted in a generally vertical position on the substrate on top of the platen, to move with the platen as it is driven slowly in a first direction and then to move relative to the platen as it rapidly returns. The link means is selectively manually rotatable to permit changing the orientation of the vibratory movement of the platen and substrate.

The game apparatus includes a rolling supported playing object for positioning between the playing surface and the cover member such that, upon compression of a support column, the reduction of the space between the playing surface and the cover forces the playing object generally away from the point of pressure and in a predetermined direction.

    • A skill type game having a playing area and two goal areas at opposite ends of the playing area includes a sound actuated flipper at each goal area for selectively blocking and propelling a playing object. The game players control the operation of each of the flippers by shouting or emitting other sounds in an attempt to project the playing object into the other players goal area and prevent the playing object from entering his own goal area. The sound actuated flipper arrangement includes control circuitry to provide an automatic lock-out feature to prevent sustained sounds from continually and/or continuously activating the flippers. The control circuitry of the sound actuated flipper arrangement provides a first predetermined time interval during which the flipper is operated and a second predetermined time interval within which operation of the flippers is inhibited. The playing area is defined by two relatively open areas each inclined upwardly from one of the goal areas to a center line. Each of the goal areas defines a first central opening for entrance of the playing object; the associated flipper defending the first goal opening when activated to prevent the entrance of the playing object into the associated goal area. Each of the goal areas also includes a second opening adjacent the first goal opening and a narrowed approach lane defined on the playing area. Accurate operation of the flippers propels a playing object directly into the second goal opening of the opposing goal area independent of the operation of the associated flipper.

    • A game of manual skill and amusement having a game board including an elevated plate with one or more openings through which an electrically conductive playing piece, such as a probe, is inserted to retrieve one or more objects from a movably mounted table disposed therebelow without contacting the edge of the opening. The plate includes an upper nonconductive facing board and a conductive backing sheet which extends beyond the facing board at the opening edges to form inwardly projecting flanges of electrically conductive material for possible contact with the probe. Contact of the probe with the conductive edge of an opening completes an electrical circuit to move the lower table and energize a signal device. The lower table is in the form of an electric motor driven turntable which is rotated responsive to a player error by touching the probe with the edge of an opening so that the objects on the turntable are repositioned relative to the openings in the upper plate upon each error by a player. The signal device is an audible signal device and indicates that the player has made an error in play. The objects retrieved from the lower surface also are electrically conductive so that their contact with the opening edge also would indicate an error. The probe can be a magnet secured to one end of an electrically conductive flexible chain which connects at one end with a handle portion for gripping by the player. The objects are of magnetic material.

A manually activated elevator system is provided in the other compartment for collecting dumped out marbles and elevating the same for discharge back into the hopper of the dump truck after the hopper is returned to a collecting or marble holding position.In addition, the toy apparatus includes a pair of wheels which are driven to rotate and to move up and down to resemble traveling over a rough and bumpy road. An animated figure in the form of a truck driver is mounted in the cab of the dump truck and is selectively movable. A push button whistle is provided to make a sound that resembles the toot of a horn and another sound generator is incorporated with the system for drivingly rotating and moving the truck wheels up and down.

A gas pump element is detachably connectable with the vehicle and includes a rotating flexible shaft which is adapted to drive a mechanism in the vehicle for returning the fuel elements or balls from the opaque compartment back into the first compartment to simulate refueling of the vehicle at a gas pump. Each time a ball is returned into the first compartment a bell is rung to simulate the action of a gas pump.

    • A game apparatus includes a generally vertically oriented rotatable shaft mounted on a base and a playing object pivotally connected to the top of the shaft for operator controlled movement. A drive mechanism is mounted within the base and includes first and second plates mounted for reciprocal translatory movement. The second plate includes a longitudinal slot surrounding a drive gear or ratchet secured to the shaft. The slot includes opposing ratchet teeth pitched in opposite directions for alternate engagement with the drive gear. The second plate is connected to the first plate for relative movement such that one set of ratchet teeth engages the gear upon reciprocal movement of the first plate in a first direction and the other set of ratchet teeth engages the gear upon movement of the first plate in a second direction to rotate the drive gear in a single selected direction. The playing object includes a tiltable arm secured to the top of the shaft and a toy airplane on one end of the arm and a centrifugally operated weight on the other end that varies the elevation of the toy airplane relative to the base in proportion to the speed of rotation of the shaft.
