    • A pair of right and left main pipes and or a pair of right and left down tubes, or a main pipe and a down tube are formed of one piece of continuous pipe material with its intermediate portion warped. The head pipe has a supporting surface portion corresponding to the surface of the aforementioned warped intermediate portion. This supporting surface portion is integrally cast together with a tubular main body portion of the headpipe. The warped intermediate portion of the pipe material is fixed to the supporting surface portion of the head pipe by welding. According to the present invention, the constructions and shapes of the welded portions are simplified. Thus, the invention is best suited to robot welding in order to improve productivity. Also, the head pipe is formed at its front surface or its both sides of its tubular main body portion with an opening in order to reduce the weight.

    • In a power converting apparatus including a capacitor connected in series which serves to divide a DC voltage, and a PWM inverter bridge for converting the DC voltage into an AC phase voltage having three electric potentials of a positive voltage, a negative voltage and an intermediate voltage in a plurality of phases, a zero voltage period generator (11) is switched by signal switching devices (5 to 10) when a load current reaches a first overcurrent level based on the detection of an overcurrent detector (12), and there is provided a zero voltage period having an intermediate voltage in which output phase voltages having all phases of the power converting apparatus become the intermediate voltages, thereby carrying out a current limitation. With an inexpensive structure, consequently, a rapidly increased current in an inverter can be instantaneously suppressed at time of the detection of an overcurrent.

    • A storage battery including a container and a cover. The container is partitioned into a plurality of cell chambers by a plurality of partition walls. Each cell chamber has a cell therein which is composed of positive and negative plates. The negative and positive plates are connected by negative and positive straps, respectively. An intercell connecting conductor connects negative and positive straps from adjacent cells through an opening in the partition wall. Each intercell connecting conductor includes a horizontal base attached to one of the straps, and an ear which extends obliquely upwardly from the base to the opening in the partition wall. The opening in the partition wall and the ear are laterally offset from the base so that they are vertically unaligned with the base. As a result, the forward tip of a welding gun used to weld two ears from adjacent cells together through the opening in the partition wall will not contact the base even when the height of the ear is of a height that would otherwise permit such contact between the welding gun and the base. The battery also includes positive and negative terminals. The walls of the container and the cover surrounding these terminals are lower than the upper edge of the nearest partition wall directly above the opening. Consequently, the terminals can have a reduced height compared to conventional storage batteries, thereby resulting in less resistance and a higher output, as well as a cheaper cost and a lower height.

    • A recoil type starter device for an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a starting pulley fixed at one end of the engine crank shaft and having a plurality of openings in its circumferential side surface; and a rotatable rope pulley confronting the starting pulley and mounted on a separate fixed shaft, said rope pulley having a pawl to engage any of the openings of the starting pulley to transmit rotational force of the rope pulley to the starting pulley at the start of the engine, a spiral spring to take up the starting rope around the periphery of the rope pulley after start of the engine, a disc fixedly mounted on the shaft of the rope pulley, and a U-shaped wire spring, one end of which is connected to a spring fitting part on the pawl, and the other end of which is frictionally contacted around the circumference of the stationary disc. The spring normally biases the pawl to retracted position, but serves as a drag link to pull the pawl into erected position upon rotation of the rope pulley in a starting direction. A projected member is provided on the side surface of the rope pulley to contact with a tail of the wire spring wound around the stationary disc, when the pawl engages the starting pulley, to reduce the frictional contact force of the wire spring with respect to the stationary disc.
