    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for trimming a width variation part, and to improve product yield, by calculating an optimum width rolling reduction basing on the informations of a slab width, and obtaining the uniform width of the slab at a coil stage after rough rolling by rolling the slab basing on the calculated results. CONSTITUTION:The width in the longitudinal direction of a slab 1 having width variation produced in the front stage of hot rolling is measured by a width measuring part 2. The width information required for hot rolling is calculated from the measured results, and optimum width rolling reduction is decided by the information basing on the extent of width variation allowable as a product. And the optimum rolling reductions of respective roughing mills 10, 11 are set and instructed basing on the optimum width rolling reduction. Thus the slab 1 is rolled to the allowable width by a vertical scale breaker 9 having a caliber and the mills 10, 11, basing on the instructions.

    • PURPOSE:To make uniform the sheet width of a final product with high accuracy and to improve yield by adding the spread which arises when the fluctuation of the sheet thickness is removed to the fluctuation of a sheet width in the stage of adjusting the vertical roll gap of a rolling installation provided with vertical and horizontal rolls with the sheet width fluctuation. CONSTITUTION:A material 6 to be rolled is subjected to thickness and cross rolling by the horizontal rolls 1, 2 and vertical rolls 3, 4 of stands 10, 11. A width detector 5 on the outlet side of the stand 10 measures continuously the width of the material 6. On the other hand, the fluctuation of the sheet width is determined by using the rolling load of the roll 1 measured actually by a load cell 1a and the temp. of the material 6 measured by a radiation thermometer, etc. The fluctuation of the sheet thickness is removed by AGC and is flattened but the spread arises in the part where the thickness is large. The spread is added to the width fluctuation outputted by the detector 5 and the correction rate of the gap of the roll 4 required for correcting the total sheet width fluctuation is calculated and is inputted to a tracking device 8. The above-mentioned correction rate for the width fluctuating part is taken out of the device 8 and the roll 4 gap is corrected accordingly when the width and thickness measuring part of the material 6 moves to the roll 4.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately, automatically control the breadth of strip in the roughing mill group provided with vertical rolls, by taking the temperature and the reaction force against the load of the vertical roll as the input information source, and by varying the gap of vertical rolls depending on the feedforward system. CONSTITUTION:The reaction force against the load of the upstream side vertical rolls 10 and the surface temperature of the bar FB at the same place are detected by the reaction force meter 4 and the thermometer 5, and are sent to the memory/ arithmetic unit 6. In the meantime, the clock unit 1 and the mill roll tachometer 2 of the horizontal mill 11 operate 3 the length of the bar FB at every moment since the start of rolling until the end of rolling, depending on the time counted from the start of rolling and the revolution of the roll; thus obtained length of the bar FB is sent to the memory/arithmetic unit 6. The memory/arithmetic unit 6 arithmetically processes above information so as to find out the load deviation and the temperature deviation in longitudinal direction of the bar FB, and then, forecasts the variation in the breadth. Next, the variation of the gap necessary for vertical rolls 10' in the rear stand is settled so as to eliminate this variation in the breadth; and a signal is sent to the roll gap setter 7 for adjusting the gap of vertical rolls 10'.
