    • PURPOSE:To smooth the surface of a cast thin plate in a continuous casting method by which a molten metal is solidified on one side on a moving metallic plate by rolling the solidified shell after thorough solidification or just before the thorough solidification by means of rolls. CONSTITUTION:A belt 11 for casting is driven by mold driving wheels 12 and rotates upward. When the unsolidified melt 14 in a tundish 13 is charged on the surface thereof, the molten metals falls by a specified distance on the mold surface according to gravity but the mold surface moves upward and therefore the top end 17 of the molten steel arrives at a falling point 19 for the molten steel. The molten steel advances thereafter in the direction of an arrow and solidifies. The solidified steel is rolled with rolls 23, 23' and rolls 22, 22' and further the thin plate is rolled with rolls 21, 21' where the plate detaches from the belt 11. Such thin plate is coiled on a coiler 16.

    • PURPOSE:To perform the rolling work for obtaining good slab free from flaws despite a large transformation of slab breadth, by making the partial thick portion generated through the broadside rolling pass to be approximately equal to the initial slab thickness using the horizontal roll, and then, by again performing the broadside rolling with caliber roll. CONSTITUTION:The technique to change the slab breadth by giving broadside rolling to the continuously cast slab, on purpose to decrease frequency of the mold replacement in the continuous casting, is already achnowledged. This broadside rolling for the slab is performed with the vertical caliber roll; hereupon, if the breadth transformation is to be made large by increasing the rolling reduction of the broadside rolling work, the partial thick portion, so called the dog-bone, is formed at both side planes of the cast billet. If this thickness increase becomes large, it causes generation of surface flaws of the material and increase of the rolling power. After this thickness increased portion is reduced by the horizontal roll to approximately equal to the initial condition of the slab thickness, again the reverse rolling of several passes is carried out with vetical caliber roll to reduce the breadth.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of internal cracking and central segregation in the slab by detecting the bulging quantity in the specified positions of the slab from roll reaction force and determining the positions of bulging correcting rolls thereby performing controlling at the time of performing continuous casting of molten steel. CONSTITUTION:A continuously cast slab 13 is cooled by the secondary cooling zone constituted by plural stands and is thereby pulled out. Here, lower pinch rolls 16 are assembled and fixed to lower frames 19 and rolls 14 are fixed to upper frames 18. The rolls 15 are fixed to hydraulic cylinders 17 independently from the frames and the upper frames 18 are mounted to hydraulic cylinders 20 so as to permit changing of their relative positions with respect to the lower frames 19. The reaction forces of the rolls are momentarily obtained by load detectors 21, pressure detectors 22, etc. and bulging is corrected while changing the roll gaps so that the reaction forces become within the permissible reaction force for bulging correction in all the roll positions. There is no production of cracking and internal segregation in the slab and the sound slab is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately, automatically control the breadth of strip in the roughing mill group provided with vertical rolls, by taking the temperature and the reaction force against the load of the vertical roll as the input information source, and by varying the gap of vertical rolls depending on the feedforward system. CONSTITUTION:The reaction force against the load of the upstream side vertical rolls 10 and the surface temperature of the bar FB at the same place are detected by the reaction force meter 4 and the thermometer 5, and are sent to the memory/ arithmetic unit 6. In the meantime, the clock unit 1 and the mill roll tachometer 2 of the horizontal mill 11 operate 3 the length of the bar FB at every moment since the start of rolling until the end of rolling, depending on the time counted from the start of rolling and the revolution of the roll; thus obtained length of the bar FB is sent to the memory/arithmetic unit 6. The memory/arithmetic unit 6 arithmetically processes above information so as to find out the load deviation and the temperature deviation in longitudinal direction of the bar FB, and then, forecasts the variation in the breadth. Next, the variation of the gap necessary for vertical rolls 10' in the rear stand is settled so as to eliminate this variation in the breadth; and a signal is sent to the roll gap setter 7 for adjusting the gap of vertical rolls 10'.
