    • The backplane connector of the present invention can improve the fitting accuracy of the optical connectors A and B at the backplane 1 side and the package 2 side respectively and protect the backplane 1 from damages caused by being pressed against the first housing 3 when the first housing 3 is fit in the backplane 1. In the first housing 3 mounted floating in the backplane 1 is housed the second housing 7 by latching and connecting the latching projection 4 to the latching pawl 10, the backplane side optical connector plug 14 is incorporated in the second housing 7. And, the package side optical connector plug 23 is incorporated in the third housing 18 of the package 2. Then, the third housing 18 is inserted in the first housing 3, and the unlatching part 20 at the third housing 18 side presses down the tip side slope 13 of the latching pawl 10 to unlatch and disconnect the latching pawl 10 from the latching projection 4. In this status, the ferrules 16 and 25 of the backplane side and the package side optical connector plugs 14 and 23 are positioned and connected to connect the backplane 1 to the package 2 optically.

    • In an optical connector structured having an optical connector ferrule accommodated in a housing urged towards the butt connection direction by an urging means, a technology is developed wherein the application of an external sideways force to the optical connector ferrule in a connected state is prevented, and the connected state is stably maintained. An optical connector 20 is provided wherein a positioning support part 24 which accommodates and supports a freely detachably a stop guard 26, which projects from the optical fiber ferrule 2, is provided in a housing 21; when this optical connector ferrule 2 is moved towards the butt connection direction, the stop guard is accommodated in the positioning support part 24 and positioned and supported; and when this stop guard 26 is released from the positioning support part 24, floating of the optical connector ferrule 2 in the housing 2 is permitted. Thereby, even if a sideways pressure is applied to the housing 21, a displacing force is not applied to the optical connector ferrule 2, and the butt connection state with the other optical connector ferrule is not affected.

    • A connector plug can be removably snap-fitted into the adapter which has a cavity into which the connector plug is inserted and a hole for locking the connector plug. The connector plug has: an optical fiber; a ferrule; housing; an elastic engagement piece with an projecting engagement portion and a projecting press portion, the engagement portion being adapted to snap into the hole of the adapter and become locked there when the connector plug is inserted into the adapter; and a stopper for locking the elastic engagement piece from being pressed. A height of the projecting press portion is set almost flush with a surface of the housing of the adapter, or is set almost equal to the height of the receptor portion of the adapter. Therefore, the connector plug can easily be connected to and disconnected from the adapter and its connection with the adapter is not easily broken.

    • An optical connector having an optical fiber inserted into a connector main body includes a buckling regulating section whose length in an optical fiber insertion direction is formed variable and which regulates a buckling of the optical fiber while becoming short in an optical fiber insertion direction when the optical fiber is inserted into the connector main body. Even if an insertion area is made long, since no buckling of the optical fiber is generated, the buckling regulating section can sufficiently increase an insertion force of the optical fiber. Thus, even when foreign substances such as dusts enter and an insertion resistance increases, the optical fiber can be securely inserted. Further, the buckling regulating section is very advantageous to realize an end surface preparation of the optical fiber making use of the insertion force of the optical fiber such as a coating removing of the optical fiber, and an end surface grinding preparation of the optical fiber.
