    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic ultrasonic flaw detecting method and apparatus discriminating the noise due to disturbance to enhance reliability and dispensing with a re-inspection process due to manual ultrasonic flaw detection. SOLUTION: In an automatic ultrasonic flaw detecting method of a plate- shaped object to be inspected by a pulse reflecting method, two probes are arranged on both surfaces of an object to be insepcted and, with respect to the signals from these surface and back probes, the positions in a plate thickness direction and the magnitudes of the signals are respectively compared to judge whether the signal sources of the signals from the surface and back probes are same to perform flaw detection. An automatic ultrasonic flaw detecting apparatus of the plate-shaped object to be inspected is equipped with probes 1,2, position calculating means 3 for calculating the positions of signal sources in a plate thickness direction, signal correcting means 4, position comparing means 5 for comparing the calculated positions, a signal comparing means 6 for comparing corrected signals, and a flaw judging means for judging whether the signal sources are a defect or noise on the basis of the comparison result.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic flaw detector capable of dispensing with transporting of materials to be tested including steel plates and improving the productive efficiency. SOLUTION: This detector which is connected to a steel plate treatment line 8 for treatment in manufacturing steel plates includes a ultrasonic flaw detector main body 4 and an on-line cooling device 1 set up on the upstream side thereof to cool steel plates 9 on both upper and lower faces thereof. It also includes an incoming side temperature gage 2 for measuring the temperature of the steel plates on the incoming side of the on-line cooling device 1 and a cooling control device 3 for controlling the cooling ability of the on-line cooling device 1 and the transporting speed of the passing steel plates 9, the cooling control device 3 functioning to calculate the cooling ability required to cool the surface temperature of the steel plates 9 to a temperature of preventing the occurrence of bubbles in water for a ultrasonic medium or the transporting speed of the steel plates from the measured values for the incoming side temperature and the thickness of the steel plates 9.
