    • A biocompatible, bioresorbable and nontoxic adhesive composition for surgical and/or therapeutic use, especially for the bonding of biological tissues to one another or to an implanted biomaterial, is provided which comprises at least one biodegradable macromolecular polyaldehyde of natural origin in aqueous solution and a collagen-based component dissolved in aqueous medium. A process for preparing this composition is also provided wherein these aqueous components are mixed together (e.g., at neutral, physiological pH) to give a gel which is rapidly applied to tissues and/or biomaterial to achieve binding. The present invention is advantageous in that it provides biodegradable macromolecular polyaldehydes with adhesive properties and the ability to be extremely well tolerated by the recipient while retaining their adhesive properties during their retention in the body. The invention thus makes it possible to rapidly bind biological tissues to one another or to implanted biological material without tissue lesions in a manner which also retains the quality and the mechanical strength of the adhesion.

    • The invention relates to a biocompatible, bioresorbable and non-toxic adhesive composition for surgical use, for the bonding, in particular, of biological tissues to one another or in an implanted biomaterial, characterized in that it comprises a reactive acidic solution of non-crosslinked and potentially crosslinkable collagen or gelatin modified by oxidative cleavage, at a concentration which is preferably between approximately 5 and 30 by weight. It also relates to reactive acidic solutions and powders based on non-crosslinked collagen or gelatin modified by oxidative cleavage which are used as intermediate products in the preparation of the above-mentioned composition, and to the process for their preparation. It also relates to adhesive kits which comprise, on the one hand, the above-mentioned reactive acidic solution and, on the other hand, a neutralizing solution and which are intended for extemporaneous mixing. Finally it relates to a method of application of the adhesive, composition according to the invention. The invention is particularly useful in the areas of adhesion, haemostasis, leaktightness with respect to liquids or gases, cicatrization, filling, avoiding adhesion in surgery, embolization, as a local system for release of medicamentary active principles, etc.

    • A bicomposite material based on collagen is prepared which has two closely bound layers and is biocompatible, non-toxic, hemostatic and biodegradable in less than a month, and can be used in surgery to achieve hemostasis and prevent post-surgical adhesion. To prepare the material, a solution of collagen or gelatin, which may contain glycerine and a hydrophilic additive such as polyethylene glycol or a polysaccharide, is poured onto an inert support to form a layer 30 μm to less than 100 μm thick. Then a polymeric porous fibrous layer is applied during gelling of the collagen or gelatin, and the resultant material is dried. The polymeric porous fibrous layer may be made of collagen or a polysaccharide, and have a density of not more than 75 mg/cm2, a pore size from 30 μm to 300 μm and a thickness of 0.2 cm to 1.5 cm.
