摘要： A spatial light modulator capable of displaying a good contrast and high resolution moving pictures without an after-image effect is disclosed. The modulator comprises a pair of transparent electrodes for generating an electric field therebetween and at least a photoconductive member and a photo modulation member being laminated and interposed between the transparent electrodes, the photoconductive member is a film having a thickness ranged from 10 .mu.m to 30 .mu.m and is made of hydrogenated amorphous silicon doped with boron such that an amount of the boron with respect to silicon in the hydrogenated amorphous silicon in atomic percent is, 0.1 to 1.0 ppm. To enhance the modulator performance, a thickness of the photoconductive member is so selected to have light absorptance ranged 70% to 95% at a wavelength of a writing light which writes information in the modulator.

摘要： A spatial light modulator providing an improved contrast, has a laminated structure of multiple layers including typically a photoconductive layer, an optical modulation layer, and a pair of electrode layers interposing the photoconductive and optical modulation layers. The thickness of at least one of the electrode layers having a predetermined relationship with a wavelength of light incident to the one of the electrode layers for writing or reading-out information into or from the spatial light modulator. The electrode layer may further comprise an electrode member and an intermediate layer disposed between the electrode member and an adjacent layer laminated adjacent to the one of the electrode layers, the electrode member having a first refractive index, the adjacent layer having a second refractive index, and the intermediate layer having a third refractive index determined to be in between the first and second indices, the thickness of the intermediate layer having an another predetermined relationship with the wavelength of the light incident to the one of the electrode layers for writing or reading-out information into or from the spatial light modulator. The intermediate layer may be a single layer-member or multiple layer-members having different refractive indices each other.

摘要： A homeotropic-alignment liquid crystal display device having a high photostability and a high contrast ratio and a method of producing the same are disclosed, wherein while two glass substrates having patterned transparent electrodes are set obliquely at a first angle with respect to an evaporation source, then a first SiO.sub.2 film is deposited on each of the glass substrates while irradiating the glass substrates with an ion beam emitted from an ion gun. Subsequently, the glass substrates are turned in their planes over an angle of 90 degrees and set obliquely at a second angle with respect to the evaporation source, and thereafter, a second SiO.sub.2 film is deposited on the respective first SiO.sub.2 films while irradiating the first SiO.sub.2 film with the ion beam. The first and second SiO.sub.2 films thus deposited on the glass substrates jointly form homeotropic-alignment undercoat films. A homeotropic alignment film is applied to each of the undercoat films, and after that the glass substrates are assembled together via spacers and filled with a liquid crystal.

摘要： Gas manifolds which are excellent in both phosphoric acid proof and electric insulation and which have sufficient corrosion proof over a long period are provided. A resin sheet with high phosphoric acid proof is folded to have a size smaller than that of the corner sections of the inner plane of gas manifolds by the size corresponding to a thermal expansion, and the folded planes are thermally compressed in air tight to form box-shaped linings. These linings are applied to the inner planes of the gas manifolds. Patches are thermally compressed to the outer surface of the bottom section of the linings and each patch is fitted loosely with a male hook or a female hook. A female hook or a male hook for engaging with the hook on each patch is fitted on the inner plane of the gas manifolds at an opposing position. The linings can be fixed to the gas manifolds engageably and disengageably by these hooks.
