    • A field emission device essentially consists of three electrodes, and comprises a cathode on the surface of which an emissive material is formed, a gate electrode formed on an insulation layer formed to upwardly surround the cathode, and having an opening for passing electrons emitted from the emissive material, and an anode for accelerating the electrons passing through the opening, wherein L/S is one or above, where S represents an aperture diameter of the opening, and L represents a typical shortest distance that the electrons emitted from the emissive material take to pass through the insulation layer surrounding the cathode. Based on this structure, it is possible to provide a field emission device that can control the orbit of emitted electrons while employing a simple three-electrode structure.

    • A horizontal type electron-emitting device structure and process of making, wherein the device includes a low-potential electrode and a high-potential electrode which are formed on a substrate, and an electron-emitting part placed between the electrodes. Above the substrate is an anode. A secondary-electron emitting material is arranged on the top of a region from the electron-emitting part to the high-potential electrode, so that secondary electrons are efficiently emitted to the anode, thereby to contribute to efficient electron emission. An auxiliary electrode may be formed, with a high-resistance or insulating layer interposed, on the substrate in the vicinity of the high-potential electrode. A voltage higher than that of the high-potential electrode is then applied to the auxiliary electrode, so that electrons emitted from the electron-emitting part are attracted to the auxiliary electrode.

    • In a method of driving a display apparatus, a first combination of a first anode voltage and a first element voltage is selected to apply the first anode voltage to the anode electrode and apply the first element voltages to electron emitting elements selectively, during a first period. The first combination is changed to a second combination of a second anode voltage and a second element voltage after the first period to apply the second anode voltage to the anode electrode and apply the second element voltages to the electron emitting elements selectively, during a second period. After the second period, the second combination is also change to the first combination.

    • An object detecting device and an object detecting method capable of performing appropriate object detection that distinguishes an approaching moving object from a stationary object accurately. The relative velocity of an object, which exists in the lateral direction of a vehicle, with respect to the vehicle is detected, the absolute velocity of the object in the horizontal direction of the vehicle is calculated on the basis of the detection signal, and it is determined whether or not the object is an approaching moving object on the basis of the absolute velocity of the object in the horizontal direction of the vehicle. Accordingly, since it is possible to accurately distinguish whether an object existing in the lateral or oblique direction of the vehicle is an approaching moving object or a stationary object, it is possible to appropriately determine whether or not the object is an approaching moving object.
