    • A remote control relay device is connected between a network and a controlled device. The controlled device is remotely controlled from an external device over the network. The remote control relay device includes a communication controller, a storage memory, a control memory and a write controller. The communication controller exchanges control data with the external device over the network. The storage memory stores control data. The control memory stores control data used for external device authentication. The write controller controls sending and receiving of control data by the communication controller, reading of control data stored in the storage memory, and writing of control data to the control memory. The write controller reads and writes control data from the storage memory to the control memory only in response to operations that are not executed over the network.

    • An electroluminescent display which is simple to manufacture and which is capable of high luminance consists of a transparent electrode disposed on a transparent substrate. On the transparent electrode are sequentially laminated layers including a fluorescent print pattern layer, a luminescent layer, an insulating layer and a rear electrode layer. The fluorescent layer is preferably formed of a fluorescent pigment and a fluoride resin binder and is provided at a portion of the electroluminescent display at which a display is to be created, such as the time indicating indicia on the dial of a timepiece. In a preferred embodiment, the electroluminescent display is provided as a timepiece dial and has a central hole therethrough for providing shafts for driving an hour hand, a minute hand and a second hand. Upon application of an electric field between the display electrodes, portions of the luminescent layer other than those which correspond to the time indicia emit light with a luminescent color dependent upon the material of the luminescent layer. The luminescent color becomes the background color of the dial. The time indicia portion formed of the patterned fluorescent layer produces secondary luminescence in response to the light emitted by the luminescent layer and received by the fluorescent layer, such that the printed time indicia emits fluorescent light with a bright fluorescent color in contrast with the luminescent background color.

    • An electroluminescent element has an enhanced luminosity when incorporated in a desired range. Interposed between a transparent electrode and a rear electrode is a luminescent layer and an insulating layer for providing thermal stability. The luminescent layer contains a luminescent material and a binder having a high dielectric constant. The luminescent layer contains 82.0 to 85.5% of a luminescent material in order to maximize the luminosity of an electroluminescent element. When a fluorescent pigment is added, i.e., a yellow pigment, green pigment or orange pigment, in a proportion not greater than 1.9% by weight, the luminosity of the electroluminescent element is enhanced even further. Optimal results are achieved when the average particle diameter of the luminescent material is restricted to 21 microns. An electroluminescent element produced as described is visually identical to a known element yet capable of emitting a greater amount of light under a smaller load.

    • A restraining device for limiting forward movement of an operator of a wheeled mechanical vehicle in case of a collision includes two restraining bars pivotally mounted at opposite sides of a seat and extending toward one another. The restraining bars are mounted so as to pivot in a vertical plane about axes which are parallel to each other and lie on opposite sides of the seat. The restraining bars are synchronized or interlocked so that when one bar is raised or lowered by the occupant of the seat the other bar is also moved. A lock or retention device on one side of the seat holds the restraining bars in the lowered or raised position after they have been positioned by the occupant. The vehicle may be a forklift or front end loader and the run controls and load controls of the vehicle are interlocked with the synchronizing mechanism so that the run and load controls cannot be operated when the restraining bars are not in the occupant restraining position.
