The fourth material has a fourth refractive index that is greater than the second and third refractive indices and the core parts have a plurality of core part ends coupled to one of the reflective ends where at least one core part end is approximately parallel to one of the reflective ends.

The method includes aligning a first body of the ferrule with respect to an alignment body. The first body includes a longitudinal recess adapted to receive at least one wave guide ribbon. Each wave guide ribbon includes at least one optical wave guide. The method further includes aligning at least one wave guide ribbon with respect to the alignment body and inserting the at least one wave guide ribbon into the longitudinal recess of the first body. Lastly, the method further includes closing the longitudinal recess of the first body with a second body of the ferrule.

A remote operator programming unit (OPP) is used to set address information in the transmitter unit via a communication channel such as an infrared link. The use of the operator programming unit allows eliminating the need to open the casing of the transmitter during programming thereby reducing the probability of damaging the electrical components of the transmitter.

The remote control device comprises a first input, a second input, a processing unit and a transmission unit. The first input receives a signal conveying a command. The processing unit is in communication with the first input and the second input for acquiring a certain set of operational settings on the basis of the configuration information. The processing unit further generates digital command signals conveying command data to the locomotive control device on the basis of the signal received at the first input and the certain set of operational settings. The transmission unit is operative for generating an RF transmission for conveying the digital command signals to the locomotive control device.
