    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of a fiber-reinforced plastic rod by arranging a large number of reinforcing fibers, in which inner and outer layers are formed by a specified material, in the same direction using the fibers impregnated with a resin and solidifying the fibers. SOLUTION: The rock bolt is constituted in such a manner that a fiber layer consisting of a large number of reinforcing fibers drawn and paralleled in the substantially same direction is impregnated with a resin and solidified while an inner layer section is formed of glass fiber and an outer layer section of polyvinyl alcohol fiber in the fiber layer. A filament material such as a cord is wound spirally along a rod surface as required for improving adhesive properties with a matric and preventing extraction, and an irregular section is formed to a surface. Accordingly, strength and an elastic modulus can be improved because a glass fiber is disposed to the inner layer section, and an excellent reinforcing effect can be ensured even under alkaline conditions because the PVA fiber having superior weather resistance, alkali resistance, chemical resistance, etc., is arranged to the outer layer section and a more surpassing reinforcing effect can be displayed because a large impact is relaxed by a comparatively flexible PVA fiber.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)-based fiber excellent in mechanical properties and hardly causing agglutination regardless of a comparatively simple and low-cost method, and further to provide the PVA-based fiber obtained by the method. SOLUTION: A spinning dope containing 0.02-0.2 wt.% boric acid and/or borate and 5-40 wt.% vinyl alcohol-based polymer, and having water as a solvent is subjected to a step for extruding the dope into a coagulation bath at which the dope is spun into an alkaline coagulation bath containing 0.0025-0.25 mol/l alkali and inorganic salts, and the resultant yarn is passed through the following steps in order to provide the objective polyvinyl alcohol-based fiber: (1) a neutralizing step for neutralizing the yarn in an aqueous solution containing 0.005-0.5 mol/l acid and inorganic salts; (2) a washing step for washing the neutralized yarn so that the amount of the inorganic salts attached to the yarn may be 1-15 wt.%; (3) a drying step for drying the resultant yarn; (4) a dry hot-drawing step, and (5) a drying and finishing step for washing the drawn yarn so that the salts may be substantially completely removed, and drying the washed yarn.
