    • A color cathode ray tube includes an evacuated envelope having a generally rectangular panel portion, a narrow neck portion having a circular cross-section and a funnel portion tapering down from a panel-portion side thereof toward a neck-portion side thereof for connecting the panel portion and the neck portion, a three-color phosphor screen formed on an inner surface of the panel portion, an electron gun housed in the neck portion, and an internal conductive film extending from an inner wall of the neck portion to an inner wall of the funnel portion. The funnel portion is provided with a yoke-mounting portion of generally truncated quadrilateral-pyramidal shape for mounting a beam deflection yoke therearound on the neck-portion side of the funnel portion. The internal conductive film is formed of a first part and a second part, the first part is formed of graphite, metallic oxide and potassium silicate, and the second part is formed of graphite and potassium silicate. The first part extends from the neck portion in the vicinity of a forward end of the electron gun to a position in the yoke-mounting portion spaced a distance in a range of 60 mm to 150 mm from a splice line between the neck portion and the funnel portion, and the second part overlaps with the first part at opposing ends thereof and extends to a vicinity of a seal line between the funnel portion and the panel portion.

    • In an image display device which forms an image by allowing electrons from electron sources which are arranged in a matrix array to impinge on phosphors in the inside of a vacuum envelope, the degree of vacuum during an operation of the image display device is improved. A vacuum envelope is formed of a face substrate, a back substrate and a support body which is arranged between and along peripheries of the face substrate and the back substrate using a sealing material. By using frit glass which contains vanadium oxide as a main component for a material of the sealing material, due to a getter action of frit glass which contains vanadium oxide as the main component, after vacuum evacuation, a lifetime of the display device can be prolonged. Further, by using frit glass which contains vanadium oxide as the main component for a material of an adhesive material which bonds the spacers and the face substrate or bonds the spacers and the back glass, the getter action can be further enhanced. Further, by applying frit glasses which contain vanadium oxide as a main component to side surfaces of the spacers or portions of the inside of the display device which do not influence the formation of image by coating, the getter action can be further enhanced.

    • To provide a spacer, which is unlikely to degrade due to heating received during manufacture process of an image display device, and an image display device equipped with the spacer. An image display device includes: a cathode substrate including an electron source; an anode substrate including a fluorescent substance that emits light upon receiving electrons emitted from the electron source; and a spacer that is disposed between the cathode substrate and the anode substrate and supports the both substrates, wherein the spacer comprises the one having a film composed of a composite metal oxide on a side surface of a glass base material, the composite metal oxide being composed of a solid solution of a metal oxide having a semiconductor-like electrical conductivity and a metal oxide having an insulator-like electrical conductivity. The spacer equipped with this composite metal oxide film has less degradation, such as that a glass composition volatilizes, even if heated during the manufacture process of an image display device, and provides an excellent image.
