    • An occupant protection system is provided in which parts along the length of the airbag inflate substantially at the same time. The occupant protection system includes an airbag inflatable on a seat pan such that it pushes the front of a seat cushion upward and a gas generator for inflating the airbag. The airbag extends along the lateral width of the seat. The airbag includes a partition panel extending along the length of the airbag therein. In one form, the partition panel partitions the interior of the airbag into a first chamber and a second chamber which extend from one longitudinal end of the airbag to the other end. The gas generator is disposed in the first chamber. The partition panel has communication holes for communicating the first chamber with the second chamber.

    • An occupant protection device is provided which protects an occupant by inflating a seat bag and a lap bag. When a vehicle collision is detected, gas generators are activated and discharge gas. The gas from one of the gas generators inflates a tube. As a result, a front portion of a cushion pad of a seat cushion is pushed upward or hardened and the hips of the occupant are prevented from moving forward. A lap bag also inflates and restrains the hips of the occupant. In one form, a lap anchor inflates so that pretension is applied to a lap portion and the hips of the occupant are pushed downward. Therefore, the thighs and hips of the occupant are pushed between the lap portion and the front portion of the cushion pad which is pushed upward or hardened and are strongly restrained in the seat.

    • A seatbelt apparatus is provided which can constrain a passenger by ensuring removal of a slack of a lap belt when two pretensioners are activated under two different time frames. A pretensioner of a seatbelt retractor is activated first, and a shoulder belt and a lap belt are pulled in a direction toward the seatbelt retractor. Subsequently, a pretensioner of a belt anchor portion is activated and pulls a seatbelt toward the belt anchor portion, and hence a one-way tongue catches and locks the seatbelt. Accordingly, the shoulder belt is prevented from moving toward the lap belt through the tongue. Therefore, removal of the slack of the lap belt is ensured, and hence a lumber of the passenger is firmly fixed.

An anchor for connecting the webbing of the airbelt is rotatably supported on the outer surface of a side plate of a base frame of the seat with a plurality of arcshaped long holes and step bolts passed through the long holes.
