    • This invention relates to marking the yarn end of a package, which is wound at the end of a winding cycle over a narrow axial range of the package surface in the form of a yarn bead. For purposes of marking the yarn end (105) of the package (103), a marking strip (126) is used, over which the yarn (105) is wound. A winding mandrel (107) engages into the space between a yarn suction device (106) and the circumferential surface of the package, and is rotated oppositely to the direction of unwinding (112) of the package (103), thereby forming a yarn loop (110) with more than one winding. Inserted axially into the space between winding mandrel (107) and the circumferential surface of the package is the marking strip (126), over which the yarn is wound several times by reversing the rotation of the winding mandrel (107). The excessive yarn (105) of the yarn loop (110) is sucked into the yarn suction device (106), and subsequently the yarn end (105) is cut.

    • A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having a pair of spindles mounted thereon, with the spindles being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. Upon rotation of the revolver, the spindles are moved between a winding position and a doffing position, and a traversing mechanism is provided for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Means are also provided for automatically transferring the advancing yarn from the rotating full package which has been moved to the doffing position, to a rotating empty bobbin tube on a spindle which has been moved to the winding position, and which comprises a yarn lifting device for removing the advancing yarn from the traversing means and conveying the advancing yarn laterally to a yarn catching plane, and a yarn transferring mechanism which laterally deflects the yarn from the yarn catching plane to a bead plane which is within the normal traverse stroke.

    • A method and apparatus for winding a textile yarn into a cross-wound package is disclosed, in which the yarn is wound about the package at a substantially constant rate while the yarn is guided onto the package by a traversing guide. In order to avoid the formation of ribbons on the package, the traversing frequency of the yarn guide is periodically varied by shortening the stroke of the traversing yarn guide while maintaining an unchanged traversing speed of the traversing yarn guide. The avoidance of the formation of ribbons is also accomplished by varying the traversing speed of the traversing yarn guide during the times in which the traversing frequency of the traversing yarn guide is unchanged. Stops are provided for controlling the length of back-and-forth movement of the traversing yarn guide and the stops can be moved inwardly and outwardly to provide the required stroke modification of the traversing guide. Several specific embodiments of the yarn traversing apparatus are disclosed, and wherein the traversing apparatus includes gripper means mounted on a slide which is positioned between parallel runs of a drive belt, and control means for moving the gripper means to alternately engage the two runs of the belt and thus reciprocate the slide.

    • A method and apparatus to centrally collect measured values of a variable parameter from each of a plurality of work stations, and so as to facilitate quality control. Each work stations includes a sensor for generating an output signal which is a function of the variable parameter, and the output signal is converted to digital signals, which represent discrete increments within the measuring range of the variable parameter. The digital signals are stored during a predetermined period of time in a memory unit so as to be available for periodic scanning by the central computer, after which the stored signals are cleared so that the memory unit is free to record the values during the next period of time. Also, circuitry is provided whereby only the extreme values of the output signalsd ar stored, together with the mean value, which are adequate to provide a complete statement of the quality of the process and product being monitored.

    • The invention provides an improved method for winding synthetic yarns and wherein the yarn is wound about a core at a substantially constant rate while the yarn is guided onto the core by a traversing yarn guide. The speed of the traversing yarn guide is proportional to the rotation of the package to define a substantially constant winding ratio during a series of sequential steps, and the speed of the traversing yarn guide is rapidly increased at the beginning of each of the sequential steps to produce a stepped precision wind. The upper and lower values of the traversing speed are both changed in a predetermined manner during the winding cycle, and so as to form a cylindrical package without harmful yarn patterns or bulges.

The twisting apparatus includes two circular discs, with at least one of the discs being flexible. The two pressure applying members are adapted to be actuated concurrently, with one member defining a first twisting zone wherein S twist is imparted to the advancing yarn, and the other member defines a second twisting zone wherein Z twist is imparted. Means are also provided for controlling the degree of twist imparted at each of the zones, so as to obtain, for example, a twisted yarn composed of core fibers having minimal twist and which are bound by outer fibers of greater twist.
