    • A yarn winding machine for winding an advancing yarn to form a yarn package which is formed on a driven winding spindle that is mounted in a projecting manner on a rotatable revolver. The package is engaged on its circumference by a pressure roll which exerts an abutment force on its surface. The winding spindle is supported on a mobile carrier which is mounted on the revolver. During the build of the package, the axial spacing between the package and the pressure roll is changed as a result of an evasive movement, it being possible for the evasive movement to be accomplished in several stages by the movement of the carrier while the revolver is fixed, or by the rotation of the revolver while the carrier is fixed, and so that the abutment force exerted by the pressure roll can be changed.

    • A yarn winding machine for winding a continuously advancing yarn into packages, the yarn being guided in a yarn traversing mechanism which includes a traversing unit and a grooved roll downstream thereof in the direction of the advance of the yarn. To transfer the yarn from a full package mounted on one winding spindle to an empty tube mounted on another winding spindle, the spindle mounting the full yarn package is moved to a doffing position and the spindle mounting the empty winding tube is moved to the winding position. The machine is provided with a yarn deflection device, which comprises a guide plate extending parallel to the circumference of the grooved roll, and a yarn guide adapted for movement in a direction parallel to the winding spindles. By rotating the guide plate, the yarn can be removed from the traversing mechanism without significantly changing its looping, and the yarn guide is then adapted to engage the advancing yarn and move the yarn into engagement with a yarn catching slot on the empty winding tube.

    • A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having at least one spindle mounted thereon, with the spindle being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. The revolver is rotatably mounted to the frame of the apparatus by a circular bearing surface of substantial diameter, which provides a very stable and durable mounting. The apparatus also includes a traversing mechanism for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

    • An automatic spool-changing system for textile machines with an array of high-speed winding heads, for example of the type having a spool revolver and a lossless thread transfer device. The system has a conveyor moving along the machine front and a spool changer with a gripper movable between the conveyor and a spool holder in a spool-changing position. The conveyor is located below and in generally the same vertical plane with the spool holder, and the gripper, which is arranged for both rotation and axial translation, is mounted for movement along a three-legged spool doffing and spool-donning path extending forwardly of the machine front. Two embodiments are shown. In the first, a separate empty-spool magazine is provided and the conveyor merely serves to carry away the empty spools. In the second, the conveyor serves for the transportation both of full spools and empty spools; in this case the gripper has two angularly displaced heads so that it can execute a spool-doffing and spool-donning operation simultaneously. Controls for the spool-changing system are also disclosed.

    • A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having a pair of spindles mounted thereon, with the spindles being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. Upon rotation of the revolver, the spindles are moved between a winding position and a doffing position, and a traversing mechanism is provided for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the operating spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

    • An apparatus and method is disclosed for continuously winding a high speed running yarn onto bobbins which are serially delivered to a winding position, and wherein the rotating full bobbins are laterally moved from the winding position to a doffing position. An automatic yarn change-over mechanism is provided for transferring the running yarn from the full bobbin onto an empty bobbin which is brought to the winding position, and as part of the change-over procedure, the yarn is severed so that a free end remains on the rotating full bobbin. In order to prevent this severed yarn end from contacting and becoming entangled in the closely adjacent empty bobbin then being wound at the winding position, there is provided a plate which is pivoted into contact with the rotating full bobbin along a contact line which is located at or immediately upstream of the most narrow gap between the surface of the rotating full bobbin and that of the empty bobbin. The free yarn end is thus pressed onto the surface of the rotating full bobbin at the contact line and is thereby prevented from contacting the empty bobbin at the winding position.
