摘要： PURPOSE:To offer a method for modifying the surface of a chromizing steel improved in corrosion resistance by forming the surface layer of a chromizing steel into a dense and smooth one and modifying chromium carbide into a stabe single kind (Cr23C6). CONSTITUTION:A low carbon steel 10 is subjected to surface treatment by a chromizing method and is thereafter subjected to heating treatment in vacuum or in the atomosphere of an inert gas to densely modify the mesh shape on the surface layer. Or, the surface layer is modified into chromium carbide of a single kind with a Cr23C6 shape.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent force applied to a solid electrolyte tube even if thermal deformation is caused when a temperature of a positive electrode structure body is lowered as well as to avoid breakage of the electrolyte tube by setting a ratio of linear expansion coefficients in a radial direction and a circumferential direction of the positive electrode structure body in a battery three times or larger than that. CONSTITUTION:A sodium - sulfur battery is composed of a negative electrode active material 1 composed of fused sodium, a solid electrolyte tube 2 composed of beta''-alumina to surround this and a positive electrode structure body 3 composed of carbon fiber felt being an electrical conductive body 7 and sulfur 8 being a positive electrode active material. In this constitution, assuming that a linear expansion coefficient K of felt turning in a radial direction and a circumferential direction in the structure body 3 is set in (K=3) or (K>3), the fact that linear expansion coefficients of the structure body 3 and the electrolyte tube 2 become the same speed when (K=3) is realized and the linear expansion coefficients become mutually separating speed when (K>3) is realized, can be proved. Thereby, the K is set in (K=3) or (K>3), and the sulfur 8 is melted when a battery temperature is raised, and a compressive condition of the felt is released, and the sulfur 8 is solidified when it is lowered, and the structure body 3 is contracted while increasing strength.

Consequently, it is possible to continuously operate a damping device even at the time of emergency power failure.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a sensor for detecting even a trace of sodium or sulfur leaked through a case housing containers containing fused sodium and sulfur individually. CONSTITUTION:At least the detection electrode 2a of a solid electrolytic sensor body 2 composed of a sodium ion conductor (e.g. a composite oxide salt of zirconate-silicate-sodium phosphate(Na1+xZr2SixP3-xO12) is disposed in a case housing containers containing fused sodium and sulfur individually in order to detect a trace of sodium or sulfur leaked from the container by means of a single sensor. A solid electrolytic sensor body is formed of a sodium ion conductor into a sheath and the inner and outer faces thereof are employed, respectively, as a reference electrode and a detection electrode. At least the forward end of the sheath is disposed in the case and a trace of sodium or sulfur leaked through the container is detected by means of a single sensor.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high power operation while maintaining high charge recovery performance by specifying the temperatures of a sodium-sulfur battery at starting a discharging step, at stating a charging step and through the charging step. SOLUTION: In a sodium-sulfur battery in which charging steps and discharging steps are repeated with resting steps therebetween, a battery system is operated so that the temperature of the battery at starting a discharging step can be 240-300 deg.C, the temperature of the battery at starting a charging step be 260-380 deg.C and the temperature of the battery through the charging step be kept at 260 deg.C or higher. A heating means and a control means to adjust its operation corresponding to the temperature of the battery are preferably used. It is desirable that set temperatures are 260-380 deg.C at finishing the discharging step and 240-300 deg.C at finishing the charging step or at the time when charged voltage arrives at a preset value in the charging step. In this way, the corrosion and deterioration of battery structural members are prevented, resulting in long-time operation.

A connection piping 8 is mounted on the storage case 1, and a gas purifier 7 for purifying gas, which is provided with an exhaust fan 6, is connected to the connection piping 8. An exhaust pipe 9 is mounted on the battery module 2, and the exhaust pipe 9 is connected to the connection piping 8 through a connection piping 10. A check valve 11 serving as a back flow prevention means, is provided on the exhaust pipe 9. A gas detection sensor can be mounted in the battery module 2, to operate an automatic valve provided on the exhaust pipe 9.
