摘要： PURPOSE:To accomplish the color display of many colors without necessitating a gradation control circuit by combining R, G and B color filters and a W filter. CONSTITUTION:Digital data 7, 8 and 9 are inputted in an image data generating device 10 being a white(W) data generating device which generates the image data of respective three primary colors and white(W) data corresponding to the three primary colors based on the digital data. For example, when only a W picture element adjacent to a picture element where R, G and B color liquid crystal display data are 'on' is made 'on', a whitish high-brightness green in which white is mixed in usual green is realized. Therefore, green colors in two brightness states, that means, the usual green and the whitish green are realized. The same effect is obtained in other colors except black by making the adjacent W picture element 'on' or 'off'. Thus, the color display of 15 colors is accomplished by the on/off control of the W picture element.

The logical display information is read out by the display memories 3-5 and converted into serial data at parallel/serial converting circuits 9-11, and the converted serial data is outputted to the liquid crystal device 18. By paying attention to the fact that the logical information is restricted, and by directly outputting the logical display information to the liquid display device 18, the quantity of the transmitted data and the number of the signal lines of cables connected to the liquid display device 18 can be reduced.

Thereafter, when the picture information is read, a paper, on which the picture information is described, is set to a platen 1 so that the lowest edge of the reading range of the picture information can be the starting point of the reading. Thus, the reading range and the picture information before the reading can be recognized, and the reading can be interrupted without any wasteful procedure such as a marking.

A sent out picture data passes through a CPU data bus 6, and through the selecting means 2', the picture data is converted at the picture data conversion means 1, and a converted picture data is sent to and printed by a print head 3.
