    • An ultrafiltration device is designed to be used for ambulatory SCUF or other types of continuous or intermittent ultrafiltration, typically while being worn or otherwise carried by the subject (S) that is being treated. The ambulatory ultrafiltration device comprises a blood filter (4) that has a blood side (6) for fluid communication with the vascular system of the subject (S), an ultrafiltrate side (7), and a semipermeable membrane (8) disposed between the blood side (6) and the ultrafiltrate side (7). The ambulatory ultrafiltration also comprises a buffer vessel (3) in fluid communication with the blood side (6) of the blood filter (4), and a blood pump (9). The blood pump (9) is controlled to alternate between a withdrawal phase and a return phase. In the withdrawal phase, blood is withdrawn on a blood path from the subject (S) via the blood filter (4) to the buffer vessel (3). In the return phase, blood is returned from the buffer vessel (3) to the subject (S) on the blood path. The blood filter (4) is arranged to remove ultrafiltrate from the blood during at least one of the withdrawal and return phases. The use of a single blood path for withdrawal of blood and return of treated blood makes the device suitable for ambulatory ultrafiltration.

    • A control system (23) is arranged to control the operation of an apparatus (200) for for extracorporeal blood treatment. The apparatus (200) comprises an extracorporeal blood circuit (20) and a connection system (C) for connecting the blood circuit (20) to the vascular system of a patient. The blood circuit (20) comprises a blood processing device (6), and at least one pumping device (3). The control system is operable to switch between a pre-treatment mode and a blood treatment mode. The blood treatment mode involves operating the blood circuit (20) to pump blood from the vascular system via the connection system (C) through the blood processing device (6) and back to the vascular system via the connection system (C). The control system (23) is operable to obtain measurement data from at least one energy transfer sensor (40) arranged to sense a transfer of energy between the patient and the connection system (C) or between the patient and the blood circuit (20). The control system (23) is configured to, in the pre-treatment mode, process the measurement data for identification of a characteristic change indicating a connection of the blood circuit (20) to the vascular system of the patient, and, upon such identification, take dedicated action. The action may involve activating at least part of a patient protection system and/or enabling entry into the blood treatment mode. The control system may be included in an apparatus (200) for blood treatment, such as a dialysis machine.

    • An apparatus (100) for extracorporeal blood cleaning includes a separation unit (110), at least two processing branches (120; 130) and a mixing unit (140). The separation unit (110) receives 5 incoming blood (B A ) and divides off a first fraction (f C ) from this blood. The first fraction (f C ) contains predominantly blood cells.
