摘要： The present invention provides a method of removing spectator ions and contaminants from aqueous suspensions of solid particles. In accordance with the method of the invention, the solid particles are transported across a phase boundary into a non-polar organic solvent, leaving the spectator ions and contaminants in the aqueous phase. To facilitate the efficient transportation of the solid particles across the phase boundary, the surface of the solid particles is coated with an amphiphilic polyelectrolyte. If desired, the solid particles can be recovered from the organic phase by evaporating the organic solvent.

摘要： The invention relates to a method of making a nickel powder having an average particle size of less than about 100 nanometers, comprising contacting, at a temperature of about 5O°C to about 95°C, a reduction solution with a nickel solution to form a reaction mixture. The reduction solution comprises a base and a reducing agent. The nickel solution comprises a nickel compound water, a nucleation agent, a surfactant or dispersant, and combinations thereof. The yield of nickel nanoparticles is greater than about 90% relative to starting moles of nickel compound. The nickel powder is suitable for use in electronics applications and sintered metal applications.

摘要： The present invention provides a method of synthesizing nanosized abrasive particles and methods of using the same in chemical mechanical polishing slurry applications. The nanosized abrasive particles according to the invention are produced by hydrothermal synthesis. The crystallites of the particles include cerium atoms and atoms of metals other than cerium. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the crystallites exhibit a cubic crystal lattice structure. The differences in electric potential between the cerium atoms and the atoms of metals other than cerium facilitate the polishing of films without the need for chemical oxidizers.

摘要： The present invention provides a process for producing particles suitable for use as abrasives in chemical-mechanical polishing slurries. The process according to the invention includes mixing at least one crystallization promoter such as Ti[OCH(CH3)2)]4 with at least one cerium compound and at least one solvent, and subjecting said mixture to hydrothermal treatment at a temperature of from about 60° C. to about 700° C. to produce the particles. Particles formed in accordance with the present invention exhibit a large crystallite size, and can be used to polish silicon-containing substrates to a high degree of planarity at a relatively high rate.
