摘要： An apparatus and method for implementing a user interface module for use in screening a receptacle to detect therein the presence of one or more prohibited objects is provided. An image signal associated with the receptacle conveying information related to the receptacle's contents and a detection signal conveying a presence of at least one prohibited object in the receptacle are received. A user interface module is adapted for displaying first information conveying an image associated with the receptacle on the basis of the image signal. The user interface module is also adapted for displaying, simultaneously with the first information, second information conveying the presence of the prohibited object in the receptacle. The second information is derived at least in part on the basis of the detection signal. As a variant, the user interface module is adapted for providing a control allowing a user to cause third information to be displayed. The third information conveys at least one characteristic associated to the prohibited object. Alternative implementations of the user interface module may be made for use in screening a person to detect thereon the presence of one or more prohibited objects.

摘要： An apparatus for performing a security screening operation on receptacles to detect presence of one or more prohibited objects in the receptacles. The apparatus may comprise an input for receiving image data conveying an image of contents of a receptacle, the image data being derived from a device that scans the receptacle with penetrating radiation. The apparatus may also comprise a processing unit for determining whether the image depicts at least one prohibited object. The apparatus may also comprise a graphical user interface (GUI) for displaying a representation of the contents of the receptacle on a basis of the image data. The GUI may also display a representation of the contents of each of one or more receptacles previously screened by the apparatus. When a detection of depiction of at least one prohibited object is made, the GUI may display information conveying a level of confidence in the detection. The GUI may also provide at least one control allowing a user to select whether or not the GUI is to highlight on the representation of the contents of the receptacle a location of each of at least one prohibited object deemed to be depicted in the image.

摘要： A security screening system to determine if an item of luggage carries an object posing a security threat. The security screening system may comprise an input for receiving image data derived from an apparatus that subjects the item of luggage to penetrating radiation, the image data conveying an image of the item of luggage. The security screening system may also comprise a processing module for processing the image data to identify in the image a plurality of regions of interest, the regions of interest manifesting a higher probability of depicting an object posing a security threat than portions of the image outside the regions of interest. The processing module may comprise: a first processing entity for processing a first one of the regions of interest to ascertain if the first region of interest depicts an object posing a security threat; and a second processing entity for processing a second one of the regions of interest to ascertain if the second region of interest depicts an object posing a security threat. The processing of the first and second regions of interest by the first and second processing entity occurs in parallel. Different processing entities may also be used to process in parallel different sets of entries a reference database to determine if an item of luggage carries an object posing a security threat.

The database of target objects comprises a plurality of entries, each entry being associated to a respective target object whose presence in a receptacle it is desirable to detect during security screening. An entry for a given target object comprises a group of sub-entries, each sub-entry being associated to the given target object in a respective orientation. At least part of each sub-entry is suitable for being processed by a processing unit implementing an optical correlation operation to attempt to detect a representation of the given target object in an image of the receptacle. A method, an apparatus and a system for generating entries for the database of target objects are also provided.

Data derived from an apparatus that scans the receptacle with penetrating radiation conveying an image of the contents of a receptacle is received. The data conveying the image of the contents of the receptacle is processed to derive an area of interest in the image, the area of interest potentially containing a threat. First threat information conveying the area of interest in the image is then displayed on a display device while the area of interest in the image is processed to derive second threat information associated to the receptacle. The second threat information is then displayed on the display device such that the second threat information is displayed subsequently to the displaying of the first threat information. In alternative implementations, an apparatus, method and system for use in screening a person for facilitating visual identification of a threat located on the person is provided.

A sequence of images of contents of luggage items derived from a device that scans the luggage items with penetrating radiation are received. The image generation device is characterized by introducing a certain distortion into these images of contents of luggage items. A display device is caused to display images derived from this sequence of images. Occasionally, the display device is caused to show a simulated threat in a luggage item by displaying a combined image derived based at least in part on an image in the sequence of images and a distorted threat image. The distorted threat image was derived by applying a distortion insertion process to a reference threat image wherein the distortion insertion process tends to approximate the certain distortion introduced in the images of contents of luggage items by the device that scans the luggage items with penetrating radiation.

摘要： A system for screening cargo containers is provided including an image generation device, an apparatus for screening cargo containers and an output module. The image generation device generates an image signal conveying information related to the contents of the cargo container. The apparatus receives the image signal and a list of objects conveying objects expected to be present in the cargo container. A processing unit processes the image signal in combination with the list of objects and a group of target images associated with objects to derive mismatch information data. The mismatch information data conveys at least one distinction between the list of objects and the information related to the contents of the cargo container conveyed by the image signal. Information conveying the mismatch information data is released and conveyed to a user of the system by an output module.
