摘要： Scorch is inhibited during the free-radical crosslinking of a crosslinkable polymer, e.g., an EPDM, by incorporating into the polymer before melt processing and crosslinking a scorch inhibiting amount of a derivative, preferably an ether, ester or urethane derivative, of a TEMPO compound, e.g., 4-hydroxy-tetrahydrocarbylpiperidin-1-oxyl. The scorch inhibitors of this invention perform as well, if not better, than their 4-hydroxy- tetrahydrocarbylpiperidin-1-oxyl counterparts in similar polymer compositions and under similar conditions in terms of scorch inhibition and ultimate degree of crosslinking, but exhibit less volatility and less migration within the polymer composition.

摘要： Polymer compositions comprise a (i) silane-fknctionalized polymer, e.g., a polyethylene grafted with vinyl triethoxy silane, (H) polyfunctional alcohol e.g., α,α,α',α'~ tetramethyl-I,3-benzenediethanol and, optionally, (iii) acid, e.g., an alkylated aryl disulfonic acid. The use of polyfunctional alcohols in the absence of a strong acid yields a light- crosslinking of the silane-functionalized polymer and this, in turn, provides a polymer melt with improved extensional properties such as elongational viscosity and melt strength. The use of a polyfunctional alcohol in combination with a blocked strong acid provides a slow rate of crosslinking during melt processing and a high degree of ultimate crosslinking after the polymer composition has been shaped or molded.

摘要： The present disclosure is directed to a plasticizer, polymeric compositions containing the plasticizer, and conductors coated with the polymeric composition. The plasticizer includes (i) an epoxidized fatty acid methyl ester, (ii) an epoxidized natural oil, and (iii) an epoxidized tallate ester. Polymeric compositions containing a polymeric resin and the plasticizer exhibit a weight loss less than 50 mg/cm 2 after exposure to 100°C for seven days. Conductors coated with the polymeric composition (containing the plasticizer) pass the low temperature unwind test of UL719 and exhibit a weight loss less than 50 mg/cm 2 after exposure to 100°C for seven days.

摘要： Compositions useful as coatings for automobile power cables comprise a combination of raoisiure-crosslinkabk, si lane-grafted ethylene polymers in combination with a non-halogcnated flame retardant. The ethylene polymers are a combination of at least one ethylene polymer with a density of 0.910 g/cc or greater and at least one ethylene polymer with a density less than 0.910 g/cc. The non-halogenated flame retardant is typically liydratcd metallic filler, e.g., aluminum trihydrate. These compositions meet SAE J-1128 and DaimlerChrysler MS-8288 specifications, exhibit good shelf-life stability, and are useful in other automotive cable applications, such as ISO-6722.

摘要： The present invention is a crosslinked automotive wire comprising a metal conductor, a flame retardant insulation layer surrounding the metal conductor, and optionally, a wire jacket surrounding the insulation layer. The automotive wire passes the specifications of one or more several automotive cable testing protocols: (a) SAE J-1128, (b) ISO-6722, (c) LV 112, (d) Chrysler MS-8288, and (e) Renault 36-36-05009/-L. In particular, the flame retardant insulation layer is prepared from a crosslinkable thermoplastic polymer and a metal carbonate. The flame retardant composition for making the insulation layer demonstrates economic and processing improvements over conventional solutions. The present invention is also a method for preparing a low tension primary automotive wire and the automotive wire made therefrom.
