摘要： A regenerative burner device for a furnace and a method of removing contaminants from such a device. The burner device includes a burner for introducing heat and waste gas into a furnace during ignition when supplied with fuel and a combustion gas, a media bed comprising refractory particles, and ducting for delivering combustion gas to said burner during ignition, and for drawing waste gas from said furnace on termination of ignition. The ducting causes the combustion gas and the waste gas to pass in succession through the media bed. Means are provided for periodically delivering a rapid flow of a decontaminating gas into said media bed. The rapid flow is of sufficient force to dislodge contaminants collected in the media bed from said waste gas.

摘要： A laser device which may be used as an oscillator or amplifier comprising a chamber having a volume formed therein and a gain medium within the volume. The gain medium comprises a solid-state element containing active laser ion within the volume. A cooling fluid flows about the solid-state element and a semiconductor laser diode provides optical pump radiation into the volume of the laser chamber such that laser emission from the device passes through the gain medium and the fluid. The laser device provides the advantages of a solid-state gain medium laser (e.g., diode-pumping, high power density, etc), but enables operation at higher average power and beam quality than would be achievable from a pure solid-state medium.

摘要： A contrast mask for a transparent photographic original may be formed by illuminating a photochromic body (11,41) through the original with white light. Preferably the photochromic body (11,41) is optically neutral (grey) and contains a silver halide as a photochromically active substance. Preferably the mask-forming exposure is performed separately from the photographic exposure of a recording medium through the original and the mask, by a different light source (27). The optical contrast range of the mask can be varied in response to the optical contrast range of the original by varying the amount of the mask-forming exposure. This variation is preferably effected by varying the number of flashes of the light source (27).The photochromic body is preferably incorporated in the holder (1,33) for the transparent original.Photographic reproduction apparatus may include an automatic densitometer, the output of which controls the amount of the mask-forming exposure.
