    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic display element which allows uniform oxidation-reduction reaction with a simple configuration without using a light scattering material together and without processing an electrode surface. SOLUTION: The electrochromic display element includes a pair of electrodes and a medium layer interposed between the pair of electrodes, and at least one of the pair of electrodes is a transparent electrode, and the medium layer contains a specific viologen compound, a specific support electrolyte, and a solvent.
