    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal alignment agent for obtaining a liquid crystal alignment layer, having high liquid crystal alignment properties and a proper black level.
      SOLUTION: The liquid crystal alignment agent is a composition containing at least one polymer selected from polyamic acids which are obtained by reacting a mixture of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride represented by formula (I) with the other tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides with diamines and its derivatives, wherein taking the total quantity of the mixture of the tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides as a reference; the percentage of the tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride represented by formula (I) is 5-95 mol%; and the percentage of the other tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides is 5-95 mol%. In formula (I), X is 2-12C alkylene.
