SOLUTION: The ductile cast iron tube is produced by a centrifugal casting method, and consists of 3.0 to 4.0% C, 1.5 to 3.0% Si, 0.1 to 0.4% Mn, ≤0.05% P, ≤0.01% S and 0.0005 to 0.05% Bi, and the balance Fe and is used as a cylindrical stock. The stock is subjected to cold rotary plastic working and is formed so as to be a desired shape, and mechanical properties of the common ductile cast iron member are imparted thereto. More concretely, 0.0001 to 0.05% Ca is incorporated therein and, more desirably, the rotary plastic working is performed by ring rolling working.

The cast iron exerts both a toughness and a strength represented by a tensile strength of ≥450 MPa and an elongation of ≥20% through a synergistic action between Bi and Ca.

SOLUTION: Two ductile cast iron materials, either or both of which contain 2.5% or more silicon are set to make a tip-to-tip contact. Then, they are subjected to friction force to generate welding heat under the friction pressure of 10-60 MPa, at the friction speed of 4 to 8 meter per second and at the burn- off speed of 0.15-0.7 mm per second, and thereafter are held under the upset pressure of 20-80 MPa. While this prevents the production of pearlite in the base metal, ductile ferrite phase can also be retained in the base metal to maintain necessary strength and elongation.

Further, it is estimated that the exhaust of graphite in the process of the welding is efficiently performed as well, and the induction of the improvement of strength after the welding is sufficiently expected. In a high temperature state, Ca and Bi form an intermetallic compound to check the wear of Bi due to vaporization, and the original action of Bi is secured, so that its mechanical properties, particularly, elongation can further be improved.
