    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing manganese in cast iron molten metal with which, using an easily and inexpensively obtainable material whose amount to be used per the unit mass of manganese to be removed is lowest, highly ductile cast iron having high elongation properties can be obtained from steel scrap having a high Mn content and used as the raw material for cast iron without substantially reducing its tensile strength. SOLUTION: In the method for removing manganese in cast iron molten metal, in the presence of an SiO 2 -containing manganese capture material layer formed on the surface of cast iron molten metal, using sulfur as a demanganese agent, manganese sulfate to be produced is made to be captured by the manganese capture material layer, and the manganese capture material layer comprising the captured manganese sulfate is recovered as slag.
