The oil supplied from oil holes 4e and 4f flows as indicated by arrows 9a-9f, and is supplied to the first brake mechanism 61 and the second brake mechanism 62.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission that can be compact and improved in controllability. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission comprises a planetary gear PR, a clutch C3 and a brake B3 arranged on one side (on the right side as shown in Fig.) in the axial direction of a planetary gear unit PU for outputting decelerating rotation, and a clutch C1 and a clutch C2 arranged on the other side (on the left side as shown in Fig.) in the axial direction of the planetary gear unit PU for engaging/disengaging the rotation of an input shaft 2 to be input to a sun gear S2 and for engaging/disengaging the rotation of the input shaft 2 to be input to a carrier CR2, respectively. As compared with the case that the clutch C1 and the clutch C2 are arranged between the planetary gear PR and the planetary gear unit PU, the planetary gear PR and the planetary gear unit PU can be arranged closer to each other and a shorter transmission member 30 is required for transmitting decelerating rotation. One differential rotation element among the differential rotation elements functions as a fixed element and is fixed to the transmission case 10. Since one differential rotation element among the differential rotation elements functions as the fixed element and is fixed to the transmission case 10, centering of the differential rotation element functioning as the fixed element for the transmission case 10 becomes possible. Consequently, tooth hitting of each differential rotation element can be stabilized to suppress occurrence of noise.
