    • According to one embodiment, an image processing apparatus connected to an external memory and a cache memory. The apparatus includes a counter, a coordinate calculator, a tag checker, a pixel referring module, a pixel value calculator and an outputting module. The counter determines a converted coordinate according to a predetermined execution sequence. The coordinate calculator calculates a unconverted coordinate used to calculate a converted pixel value located at the converted coordinate. The tag checker generates a conversion request to calculate the converted pixel value with reference to an unconverted pixel located at the unconverted coordinate. The pixel referring module reads the unconverted pixel from the cache memory based on the conversion request when the unconverted pixel is stored in the cache memory. The pixel value calculator calculates the converted pixel value with reference to the read unconverted pixel. The outputting module writes the converted pixel having the calculated converted pixel value into the external memory.

    • A calibration apparatus includes an obstacle detection unit that detects an obstacle on an arbitrary surface in a three-dimensional space in one of a plurality of images obtained by taking an image pickup subject from a plurality of directions, by using a transform parameter transforming a point on the surface into a point on the surface of other image, and computes position coordinates of the obstacle on each of the images; and a transform parameter adjustment unit that receives a distance data between an image pickup position and the obstacle, and adjusts the transform parameter with the received distance data and position coordinates of the detected obstacle. The obstacle detection unit detects the obstacle by using the transform parameter adjusted by the transform parameter adjustment unit, and computes the position coordinates of the detected obstacle.

    • A parallel computer of this invention includes a plurality of memory elements and a plurality of processing elements and each of the processing elements is connected to logically adjacent memory elements. For example, the processing element which corresponds to a logical position (i, j) is connected to the memory elements which correspond to a plurality of logical positions (i, j), (i, j+1), (i+1, j) and (i+1, j+1). It is preferable if each of the memory elements can be accessed from the exterior. According to this invention, efficient memory access can be made and the parallel processing can be performed at high speed without increasing the hardware amount and making the control operation complicated. Further, the operation speed of the image processing can be enhanced by constructing an image memory by use of a plurality of memory elements and causing the processing element to effect the image processing in a distributed and cooperative manner.

    • A disparity profile indicating a relation between a perpendicular position on time series images and a disparity on a target monitoring area based on an arrangement of a camera is calculated.
