    • A thin film transistor substrate for a liquid crystal display includes an insulating substrate, and a gate line assembly formed on the substrate. The gate line assembly has a double-layered structure with a lower layer exhibiting good contact characteristics with respect to indium tin oxide, and an upper layer exhibiting low resistance characteristics. A gate insulating layer, a semiconductor layer, a contact layer, and first and second data line layers are sequentially deposited onto the substrate with the gate line assembly. The first and second data line layers are patterned to form a data line assembly, and the contact layer is etched through the pattern of the data line assembly such that the contact layer has the same pattern as the data line assembly. A passivation layer is deposited onto the data line assembly, and a photoresist pattern is formed on the passivation layer by using a mask of different light transmissties mainly at a display area and a peripheral area. The passivation layer and the underlying layers are etched through the photoresist pattern to form a semiconductor pattern and contact windows. A pixel electrode, a supplemental gate pad and a supplemental data pad are then formed of indium tin oxide or indium zinc oxide. The gate and data line assemblies may be formed with a single layered structure. A black matrix and a color filter may be formed at the structured substrate before forming the pixel electrode, and an opening portion may be formed between the pixel electrode and the data line to prevent possible short circuits.

    • An ITO (indium tin oxide) layer and a negative photoresist are deposited sequentially on the substrate 100 having a gate wire, a storage wire, a data wire and a storage electrode. The negative photoresist is developed through front exposure and the ITO layer is etched to form a pixel electrode. Because the portions of negative photoresist exposed to light remain after development, pixel defects due to particles placed between pixel regions are reduced. Both the rear exposure and the front exposure may be used. In the rear exposure, it is difficult to remain the portions of the ITO layer at the positions corresponding to the contact portion of the drain electrode and the pixel electrode, the storage line, the gate pads and the data pads. Accordingly, the front exposure is then executed by using the first mask having openings thereon. The negative photoresist is developed, and the ITO layer is patterned. After etching the ITO layer, because the portion of the ITO layer outside the display region remains as a whole, the portions of the ITO layers on the gate pads and the data pads remains through front exposure using a positive photoresist.

    • There is provided a liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display includes a TFT-LCD panel having any one of a variety of shapes including a circular shape, an elliptical shape, a circular arc shape, and a shape with an angle other than 90°; a plurality of straight light sources disposed at a rear side of the TFT-LCD panel and having a different length according to the shape of the TFT-LCD panel; and an inverter and a transformer connected to one terminal of each light source, wherein the inverter induces a same current to the light sources having a different length and the transformer supplies a boosted voltage lo dependent on the length of each light source to the light source so that luminance is uniform. With the straight light sources having a different length for a back light unit suitable for a liquid crystal display panel having a variety of shapes including circular, elliptical, fan, and semicircular shapes according to the present invention, image quality of uniform luminance can be implemented on the entire display area of the panel.
