摘要： A magnetic head structure has a coil and a magnetic pole allowing a magnetic flux generated by the coil to be transmitted therethrough and forming a magnetic gap. An insulating layer surrounds the coil, and a protective layer covers the insulating layer and the magnetic pole. The insulating layer has a volume equal to or greater than a value which is determined with respect to a thickness of the protective layer. It is preferable to increase the volume of the insulating layer as the thickness of the protective layer is made greater. By increasing the volume of the insulating layer, the protrusion of a portion of a floating surface of the magnetic head slider near the magnetic pole, toward the disk, is reduced.

摘要： When a pin layer magnetic field offset judgment unit judges that a magnetic field in a pin layer of a spin valve head through which a sense current flows in the interference direction has been deviated from a normal direction, a recovery processing unit allows a recovery from the abnormality arising from the magnetic field offset. For example, the direction of the sense current is switched from the interference direction to the assist direction, and the sense current larger than that upon the ordinary reading action is allowed to flow so that the temperature of an antiferromagnetic layer exceeds the blocking temperature, whereby the direction of the magnetic field in the pin layer is modified to the normal direction by the action of a magnetic field generated from the sense current. After the modification, the sense current is returned to have its ordinary value in the interference direction.

摘要： A non-magnetic layer is interposed between a read head element and an inductive write head element placed on the read head element in a magnetic head. The non-magnetic layer is made of material having a permittivity lower than that of Al2O3. The magnetic head of this type allows interposal of the non-magnetic layer between the read head element and the inductive write head element. Even if a sensing or writing current is supplied to the read head element or inductive write head element, the non-magnetic layer serves to avoid the leakage of the writing current as much as possible. In other words, the crosstalk current flowing to the read head element from the inductive write head element can be reduced. The read head element can be prevented from deterioration.

The magnetic head comprises: a slider having a disk-side face; an element for reproducing data; a shielding layer; a coil for writing data; magnetic poles; a heat radiating layer for radiating heat generated in the magnetic head; and an insulating layer for electrically insulating the heat radiating layer. The heat radiating layer is provided near the element or the coil without touching the element, the shielding layer, the coil and the magnetic poles. The heat radiating layer is made of a material whose heat conductivity is higher than that of the insulating layer. An end of the heat radiating layer is exposed in the disk-side face of the slider.
