    • A key interlocking mechanism for an automobile ensures that the automobile transmission is in the proper position when the key is removed. The mechanism includes a stopper pin protruding into the rotational path of the key motor and a solenoid valve energized when the automobile transmission is shifted out of park. When the key rotor is rotated with the solenoid valve unenergized, a cam plate within the mechanism acts to push the stopper pin up out of the rotational path of the key rotor. When the solenoid valve is energized, the stopper pin is prevented from being pushed out of the rotational path of the rotor. The key rotor is thus prevented from being rotated to a position in which the key can be removed from the rotor.

    • An activation restricting apparatus for an engine starting system that may be produced with a compact size. The apparatus includes an operating mechanism, an actuator, and a control unit. The operating mechanism starts and stops the engine and has a plurality of positions including a LOCK position. The operating mechanism includes a first stopper prohibiting movement of the operating mechanism from the LOCK position and a second stopper prohibiting movement of the operating mechanism to the LOCK position. The control unit enables the engine to be started when the operating mechanism is in the LOCK position and a first ID code sent from a portable device matches a second ID code. The control unit enables the operating mechanism to be moved to the LOCK position when the operating mechanism is not in the LOCK position and the vehicle is not moving.

    • A lock plate moves in a direction indicated by an arrow by the operation of a detent knob. A stopper plate to which a main body of an electromagnetic solenoid is fixed is designed to reciprocate between a lock position and an unlock position, the lock position being a position at which a stopper section confronts the lock plate and the unlock position being a position at which the stopper section evacuates from the lock plate. The stopper plate is normally urged toward the lock position by return springs. A cam member coupled to a plunger of the electromagnetic solenoid receives a force to move to the unlock position through the operation of the cam with respect to the lock plate. A resiliency of the return springs is set to a value smaller than a resultant force of a plunger attracting force of the electromagnetic solenoid and a resiliency of a trip spring that urges the plunger in a plunger attracting direction.
