    • A closed cycle engine system comprises an engine unit operable to combust fuel with combustion supporting gas, and a gas circuit providing fluid communication between the intake and the exhaust of the engine unit. In operation, the engine unit produces exhaust gases. The gas circuit is provided with an absorber to at least partially absorb the exhaust gases and a flow resistance. The flow resistance is located between the absorber and the intake, and is arranged such that the pressure at the intake is less than the pressure at the exhaust. Such an arrangement improves the efficiency of the absorber, and thus the overall efficiency of the engine. A method of operating such an engine system, and vehicles comprising such an engine system, are also disclosed.

[Class 78 (iv)] A crane is provided with independently-operable grab-hoisting gear and load-hook operating-gear and is fitted with means for stowing the grab on the framework when not in use without disconnecting the hoisting and operating ropes during the use of the alternative load-hookgear. The Figure shows a cradle 6 for stowing the grab, pulleys 3, 2, 1 for the grab ropes 10 and pulleys 3a, 2a, for the rope 9 carrying the load hook 8. When the grab is in use, the pulleys 3, which are mounted in a pair of sliding carriages, are locked in position coaxial with the pulleys 3a, but are freed to slide up and down as the jib is luffed when the grab is stowed. The carriages may be specially loaded if necessary. Both sets of operating-gear preferably incorporate level-luffing mechanism of known type. As an alternative to locking the pulleys 3, they may abut against an upper buffer, which allows them to move downwards and take up slack in the grab ropes should the grab inadvertently seat on the material while the jib is being luffed.
