摘要： An edge type backlight assembly for an LCD includes a plurality of flexible printed circuit boards, each of which has a group of one or more LEDs mounted thereon and disposed adjacent to each other. If one of the LEDs is defective, only the board on which the defective LED is mounted needs to be replaced, thereby simplifying rework of the backlight assembly and reducing its manufacturing cost. Further, by coupling separate sources of power to the separate LED mounting boards, the amount of light emitted by separate regions of the display can be independently controlled.

摘要： A backlight assembly supplies a guided light to a display panel having a main display part on which a main image is selectively displayed, and a sub display part on which a sub image is constantly displayed. The backlight assembly includes a light source and a light guiding unit. The light source generates a light. The light guiding unit includes a light incident surface, a light exiting surface, and a corresponding surface. The light from the light source is incident into the light incident surface. The light exiting surface has a main region and a sub region, the sub region having an optical pattern increasing a luminance of the light. The guided light exits the light exiting surface. The corresponding surface corresponds to the light exiting surface. A luminance uniformity and a luminance when viewed on a plane are increased.

摘要： An apparatus for dual display includes a light unit providing a light and a display panel. The display panel includes a transmissive pixel transmitting the light from the light unit and a reflective pixel reflecting the light from the light unit. The display panel displays a first image on one side of the light unit by using the light transmitted by the transmissive pixel, and displays a second image on an opposite side of the light unit by using the light reflected by the reflective pixel. The display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate combined with the first substrate and disposed adjacent to the light unit, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and the second substrates. The display panel further includes a reflective layer formed on the first substrate corresponding to the reflective pixel. Therefore, a total thickness of the apparatus for dual display can be reduced considerably by using the light unit as a second display screen.
