    • A method (10) and system of adjusting a speech output rate to match a speech input rate can include the steps of receiving (12) speech input, computing (14) a speech input rate, and dynamically adjusting (18 or 26) a speech output rate to match the speech input rate. If the type of speech output is TTS, then a rate of TTS can be adjusted (18). If the type of speech output is recorded and alternate text is available, then steps (22 and 24) of counting alternate text available from a recorded output and determining an audio file length is used to compute a default output rate to adjust a recorded output rate. If the type is recorded and alternate text is unavailable, then steps (21 and 24) of obtaining an output word count from a transcription of a recorded speech output and determining an audio file length is used.

    • The invention concerns a method and a system for transcribing a voice mail message. The method of the invention involves a plurality of steps including, first providing a computer voice mail message stored in an audio file to a computer speech recognition system and, second, submitting the computer voice mail message to a speaker identification process in the speech recognition system. Notably, the speaker identification process can identify an enrolled speaker as a source of the computer voice mail message. Finally, responsive to the identification of the enrolled speaker, the computer voice mail message can be submitted to a speech conversion process in the speech recognition system. The speech conversion process can perform speech-to-text conversion of the computer voice mail message using speaker enrollment data corresponding to the identified enrolled speaker. Furthermore, the speech-to-text conversion can produce a transcription of the computer voice mail message. In one embodiment of the present invention, the transcription further can be displayed.

    • A method for voice data entry availability in a voice response system can include receiving speech input specifying data in an audio user interface to a data information system for processing data in a data store. The speech input can be received through an audio user interface to the data information system. Subsequently, speech-to-text conversion of the speech input can be performed using a speech recognition engine with reference to a corresponding speech grammar. In particular, the speech grammar can contain a data set of words relating to the data information system. Notably, the data store can contain a subset of the data set, the subset having words which can be processed by the data information system, the subset not having words which cannot be processed by the data information system. If the specified data is included in the speech grammar and if the specified data is in the data store, the speech data in the speech query can be processed. However, if the specified data is not in the data store, it can be reported that the specified data cannot be processed. Finally, if the specified data is not included in the speech grammar, an Out-Of-Grammar (OOG) condition can be reported. Additionally, the speech data in the speech query is not processed.

    • A method and a system for use in a computer speech recognition system for adding new vocabulary by using language model statistics corresponding to an existing vocabulary word. The method involves a series of steps including receiving a user input identifying a first word for which no language model statistics exist in the speech recognition system. The first word is for inclusion within the existing vocabulary of the speech recognition system. In response to a second user input identifying a second word for which language model statistics exist in the speech recognition system, recalling from a computer memory the language model statistics for the second word. The speech recognition system then automatically creates language model statistics for the first word by duplicating the language model statistics of the second word and replacing each occurrence of the second word in the duplicated language model statistics with the first word.
