摘要： With the subject invention, a container for an injection device with an injection needle is provided. The container includes a body having a compartment formed therein to accommodate the injection device in both a pre-use and a post-use condition. The body defines a first opening through which the injection device in its pre-use condition may be accessed, and the body defines a second opening into which the injection device may be directed in its post-use condition. A closure is provided for closing the first opening. The container also includes a retainer proximate the second opening for retaining the injection device in the container in its post-use condition preventing access to the injection needle after the injection device has been used to administer an injection. Advantageously, the container of the subject invention may accommodate an injection device both before and after use thereby providing not only a pre-use packaging for the injection device, but also a post-use sharps container for the injection device.

摘要： A disposable scalpel (20) has a blade (26) attached to a handle. In a first aspect, the scalpel is weighted, so that although it is disposable, it has a weight similar to the weight of a conventional, nondisposable metal scalpel. The scalpel may be weighted by one or more metal slugs within the handle, by particles of weight material within the handle, or by manufacturing the handle including weight materials, such as molded plastics including weighted filler, such as a metal powder. In a second aspect, a shield assembly (50) is slidable within the handle from an extended position, where the shield blocks access to the blade, to a retracted position, where the shield is substantially within the handle, and the blade is fully exposed. A locking mechanism may be provided to lock the shield, temporarily or permanently, into the extended and retracted positions.

摘要： A medical injector is provided herein which includes first and second body portions each having a longitudinal axis and configured to couple at a coupling. The first and second body portions are complementarily formed so as to be movable about the coupling. The medical injector also includes an axially-displaceable plunger; biasing element for advancing the plunger a predetermined distance; and, a releasable retainer for releasably retaining the plunger in a first state against the force of the biasing element. In an initial state, the axes of the first and second body portions are not aligned and the plunger is in the first state. In a coupled state, the axes of the first and second body portions are axially aligned, and the releasable retainer releases the plunger, thereby allowing the biasing element to advance the plunger the predetermined distance. Advantageously, the subject invention provides a medical injector having an automated plunger drive which is triggered upon assembly of the pen injector, thereby minimizing premature or failed activations.

摘要： A cartridge or injector (10) for holding and mixing a medical product is provided herein including a tubular body (16) having a cylindrical wall (26) having first (28) and second (30) opposing ends. The wall includes inner (34) and outer (36) surfaces with the inner surface having a generally constant cross-section along at least a drug mixing area. A first stopper (18) is slidably disposed within the wall between the first and second ends, the first stopper defining a liquid-light seal with the inner surface. A second stopper (20) is slidably disposed within the wall between the first stopper and the first end, the second stopper defining a liquid-tight seal with the inner surface. A flexible insert (22) is disposed at or in proximity to the second end, the insert forming a liquid-tight seal with the wall, the insert being pierceable by a medical needle or other piercing instrument. A rigid retainer (24) is fixed to the wall having an opening therein for providing access to the insert for piercing by a medical needle. The insert extends into the retainer and forms a liquid-tight seal across the opening.
