    • An elongated recess is provided on one side of a valve plate, and a piston is provided on the other side of the valve plate. Discharge holes are provided through the valve plate at the recess, and a pair of discharge reeds are disposed within the recess to close/open the discharge holes. A spring reed presses against the discharge reeds on sides thereof opposite to the discharge holes to close the discharge holes. A stopper is secured to the valve plate and fixes the spring reed into position. The operation of the discharge reed can be tested by the operation of the discharge reed alone, and refrigerant gas remaining in the discharge holes can be reduced, thereby improving compression efficiency. The two discharge holes are each associated with one of the pair of discharge reeds, thereby preventing over-compression loss.

    • The present invention comprises a suspension spring and snubber arrangement for reducing transmitted noise from a reciprocating compressor at ⅓-octave frequency band of 500 Hz and preventing the occurrence of resonance frequency during the reciprocating compressor operation, the arrangement comprising: the suspension spring having a plurality of coils and two opposing open ends; at least one snubber for maintaining the integrity and shape of the suspension spring and for preventing displacement of the suspension spring from their intended position; wherein at least one open end of the suspension spring is loosely fitted over the at least one snubber; and further wherein an internal diameter of the suspension spring is larger than a outer diameter of the snubber so that a gap is defined between the suspension spring and the snubber for minimizing physical contact between the suspension spring and the snubber.

Connected to the breathing port, a bifurcate conduit has a first conduit branch and a second conduit branch. The first conduit branch has an atmospheric air inlet, from which the atmospheric air is provided for inhalation, an inspiratory check valve to allow a one-way flow of the atmospheric air, and an atmospheric air aspirator. The second conduit branch has a one-way expiratory check valve and a expiratory gas reservoir. A one-way check valve is used to interconnect the first and second conduit branch, from which the expiratory gas stored in the expiratory gas reservoir flows to the first conduit branch to mix with the atmospheric air when the minute ventilation exceeds the atmospheric air.

    • A closed motor-driven compressor includes a closed vessel containing a lubricating oil collected in a bottom portion thereof, a compression section accommodated in the closed vessel, and a motor section accommodated in the closed vessel for driving the compression section. The compression section includes a crankshaft driven by the motor section and having a lower end submerged in the lubricating oil, and a block for rotatably supporting the crankshaft. The block has a cylinder formed therewith and having an open end. The block also has a rib formed therewith, a generally flat shoulder portion formed on one side of the cylinder, and a leg formed below the generally flat shoulder portion. The compression section also includes a cylinder head secured to the rib for covering the open end of the cylinder. An oil guide is formed with the block for guiding to the bottom portion of the closed vessel a lubricating oil that is sucked up from the lower end of the crankshaft, caused to spout out from the upper end of the crankshaft, and collected on the generally flat shoulder portion. The oil guide prevent the oil from dropping on and flowing over a suction muffler disposed below the rib, and also prevents the oil from dropping directly on the bottom portion of the closed vessel.

    • A hermetic compressor for use in refrigeration systems is provided. The hermetic compressor includes a compressor unit disposed within an enclosed compressor casing. The compressor unit has a compression chamber and a valve assembly having an inlet port arranged to introduce refrigerant into the compression chamber and an outlet port for discharging the refrigerant compressed in the compression chamber. The valve assembly includes a valve plate, a single outlet reed valve, and a spring member. The valve plate has formed therein a recessed portion in which the outlet port is formed. The outlet reed valve has a supporting portion and a valve portion for selectively opening and closing the outlet port according to a pressure level of the refrigerant compressed in the compression chamber. The recessed portion has protrusions to define an outlet reed valve housing in which the supporting portion of the valve portion of the outlet reed valve is secured. The spring member has a plate portion and a plurality of legs, extending from the plate portion, designed to engage the protrusions of the recessed portion to retain the outlet reed valve in the outlet reed valve housing and to provide a spring force serving to restrict opening motion of the valve portion of the outlet reed valve.
