    • The present invention provides a stream recording/reproducing apparatus that records a stream onto a first recording medium without using extra recording capacity of such first recording medium, and then dubs such stream onto a second recording medium at high speed while minimizing the degradation in image quality and sound quality. The stream recording/reproducing apparatus of the present invention includes: an analysis unit (6) that judges whether or not a stream (101) is compliant with the logic specification of a second recording medium (7); a management information recording unit (8) that records a result of the judgment onto a first recording medium (3); a TS recording processing unit (2) that records the stream (101) onto the medium (3); processing units (14) and (15) that convert the stream (101) recorded on the medium (3) into a stream that is compliant with the logic specification of the medium (7) in the case where the stream (101) is not compliant with the logic specification of the medium (7); and a PS recording processing unit (17) that records the converted stream onto the medium (7).

    • To reduce the waste of the storage capacity of a storage medium as much as possible while realizing high-speed dubbing. A data processor can write a data stream on each of storage media of first and second types and includes: a receiving section for receiving a first data stream; a converting section for converting the first data stream into a second data stream; a processing section for writing the first and second data streams on the first type of storage medium; a playback section for playing back a content based on the first data stream; and an instruction receiving section for receiving, from a user, an instruction on whether the content needs to be dubbed or not. If the user has instructed that the content be dubbed, the processing section reads the second data stream from the first type of storage medium, writes the second data stream on the second type of storage medium, and then deletes the second data stream from the first type of storage medium.

    • A recording apparatus according to the present invention includes: a recording section for generating a first recording signal for recording visual information, showing the contents of data to be written on an information storage medium in a visible form, on the information storage medium; and a head section for recording the visual information on the information storage medium based on the first recording signal by using predetermined address information, which is stored on the information storage medium, as a reference for aligning the visual information being recorded such that the visual information is directly visible to a user. The recording section further generates a second recording signal for writing location information, showing where the visual information has been recorded on the information storage medium, on the information storage medium. And the head section writes the location information on the information storage medium based on the second recording signal.

    • A digital signal magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus converts a digital signal into a multi-value digital signal, followed by recording/reproducing the quadrature biphase modulated multi-value quadrature amplitude modulated signal. By using a multi-value quadrature amplitude modulation, a direct current component in the recorded signal can be eliminated, and the utilization efficiency of the recording frequency band of the digital signal magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus can be improved. Also, with respect to the amplitude non-linear characteristic which occurs in the magnetic recording/reproducing process, by providing a compensating circuit during the mapping before recording or after reproducing and demodulating, the deterioration of the S/N ratio of the reproduced and demodulated signal can be reduced to decrease the errors in the decoded data. Furthermore by bias-recording the multi-value quadrature amplitude modulation signal, the non-linearity of the electromagnetic conversion system is alleviated to decrease the deterioration of the S/N ratio due to distortion, thereby making the application of the modulation scheme more reliable.
