    • A spindle motor assembly includes a spindle motor having a shaft and a hub that rotates on the shaft, and a hard disk having a data storage medium mounted in the form of a whole disk, and a fastener attached to the center of a bottom surface of the disk-shaped data storage medium that faces the spindle motor. The fastener is a screw or a nut. In the case in which the fastener is a screw, a head of the screw is attached to the bottom surface of the hard disk, and the body of the screw is received in a screw hole in the upper portion of the shaft of the spindle motor. In the case in which the fastener is a nut, the nut is engaged with an external thread on an outer circumferential surface of the hub of the spindle motor.

    • A disk fixing apparatus to fix a disk onto a spindle motor in a hard disk drive (HDD). The apparatus includes a coupling hole, in which a coupling portion to fix the disk fixing apparatus onto the spindle motor is inserted, on a center portion of the disk fixing apparatus, and an attaching portion, to which the disk is attached on an outer portion of the disk fixing apparatus. The attaching portion includes an attaching surface extending in a vertical direction so that a part of an inner circumferential surface of the disk can be attached to the attaching surface and/or an attaching surface facing an upper surface or a lower surface of the disk and extending in a horizontal direction so that a part of a non-recording region on the upper surface or the lower surface of the disk can be attached to the attaching surface. Thus, the stress applied to the disk can be reduced and the deformation of the disk can be reduced, and thus, changes in floating height of the head slider can be minimized. Therefore, the recording and reproducing performances of the magnetic head can be improved, and the recording density of the disk can increase.

    • An actuator latch apparatus for a data storage device includes a latch lever installed on a base plate of the data storage device capable of pivoting and having a first latch portion provided at one end portion of the latch lever, a spring connected to the other end portion of the latch lever and made of a shape memory alloy to allow the latch lever to pivot in a predetermined direction by being deformed according to application of electric power, and a second latch portion provided at an end portion of an actuator moving a read/write head to a predetermined position of a disk. When the rotation of the disk is stopped and the actuator is parked at a parking position, the spring allows the latch lever to pivot in one direction so that the first latch portion interferes with the second latch portion, thus locking the actuator not to rotate, and when the disk rotates, the spring allows the latch lever to pivot in the opposite direction so that the first latch portion is separated from the second latch portion, thus allowing the actuator to rotate. Thus, a reliable operation of the actuator latch apparatus is available due to the characteristic of the shape memory alloy and the structure of the actuator latch apparatus is simplified.

    • The apparatus senses the positions of X- and Y- axes of the stage by applying an excitation signal having a phase difference to a stator of each axis of the XY-stage and then time-division detecting changes in capacitance from a moving plate. The apparatus includes: a moveable stage, rotor combs connected to the stage, and stator combs of predetermined axes, wherein differential capacitors are formed between the rotor and stator combs; an amplifier connected to the stage for outputting position information in a time-division manner, in which a time constant is designed so as to prevent interference between position information output from the stage; a sample/hold unit for sampling and holding the time-division position information output from the amplifier in response to a timing control signal; and a controller which outputs a control signal such that the time-division position information from the amplifier can be sampled and held when the information reaches a maximum, reads position information output from the sample/hold unit, and generates excitation signals having different phases to each be applied to a different axis.
