    • A method and an apparatus for improving performance of a hard disk drive at low temperature are provided. The method includes: measuring an internal temperature of the hard disk drive; checking whether a measured internal temperature is not more than a predetermined critical temperature; if the measured internal temperature is not more than the predetermined critical temperature, driving a motor of the hard disk drive for a predetermined time and proceeding to the operation of the measuring of the internal temperature of the hard disk drive; and if the measured internal temperature is greater than the predetermined critical temperature, determining that reading/writing operations with respect to the hard disk drive are available.

    • An FPC holding mechanism of an actuator assembly of a hard disk drive (HDD) includes an FPC holder protruding from an arm-mold of the actuator assembly, and an FPC clip that is mounted to the FPC holder so as to be rotatable relative to the FPC holder. The FPC holder defines a guide groove into which the FPC is inserted and a first side support plate facing one side surface of the FPC. The FPC clip includes a second side support plate juxtaposed with the first side support plate and facing the other side surface of the FPC, and at least two clip arms extending in a horizontal direction over upper and lower edges of the FPC, respectively. At least one of the clip arms has a hook that is hooked onto the first side support plate. The FPC holding mechanism thus prevents a portion of the FPC from moving in vertical and horizontal directions.

    • A cover member including an air guiding portion and an HDD including the cover member are provided. The HDD includes: a housing including a base member and a cover member; a spindle motor installed on the base member; a data storage disk mounted on the spindle motor; and an actuator rotatably installed on the base member, and including a read/write head for recording data onto the disk or reproducing data recorded on the disk. The cover member includes an air guiding portion protruding from a bottom surface of the cover member toward a surface of a data storage disk to guide an air flow generated by a rotation of the disk to the outside of the disk, and the air guiding portion has a width that changes along a rotating direction of the disk. Therefore, the air flow generated by the rotation of the disk can be guided outside of the disk by the air guiding portion formed on the cover member, and the air flows fast, and thus, the particles on the disk can be discharged outside of the disk efficiently.

    • A negative pressure air-bearing slider includes a body flying in a first direction along a track of a disc where information is recorded while being raised to a predetermined height, a plurality of rails provided at the bottom of the body corresponding to a surface of the disc, an air inflow channel arranged at the bottom of the body in the first direction and having an air inflow portion at the leading end portion of the slider and an air exhaust portion at the inside of the body, and a pair of negative pressure recess portions provided at the air exhaust portion of the air inflow channel to be arranged in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction with respect to the air inflow channel. Thus, a constant flying height is maintained in the overall area of a disc. A pitch angle is maintained within an appropriate range in the overall area of a disc. The size of the roll angle is minimized in the overall area of a disc and maintained to be constant. In particular, dynamic stability is provided to the external interference and track seek and the amount of contaminant particles intruding into the head-disc interface is minimized, so that a phenomenon in which the intruding contaminant particles are accumulated in the negative pressure recess portions can be effectively prevented.
