    • A suspension system (10) for compensating road-borne loads applied selectively to one end of a vehicle wheeled axle (12). The suspension system (10) includes a pair of elongated rigid tube (56,58), extending longitudinally over oposite sides of the wheels axle (12), and supported thereover by corresponding upright posts (26,28) anchored to the intermediate section of the wheel axle (12). Each post and associated tube have a number of lateral interdigitating hollw ears, wherein the tube and post are pivotally interconnected by a lengthwise rubber shaft (80,86). A bottom frame beam (42,44) from the vehicle body extends laterally outwardly of each corresponding tube, and includes a plurality of ears interdigitating with additional ears from the proximate tube for through engagement by another rubber shaft (82,84), for pivotally interconnecting the beam to the tube. In normal condition, each beam ear rubber shaft is downwardly offset relative to the post ear rubber shaft. Thus, as the axle (12) on one side of the vehicle is lifted following a road-borne load, the vehicle beam (56,58) on that side will sink as well as move inwardly toward the intermediate portion of the axle (12), due to the deformation of the rubber shaft, whereas the vehicle beam on the opposite side will raise as well as move outwardly away from the intermediate axle portion.

    • A joint (12) between an at least hollow ended, generally cylindrical first component (14) and a second component (16). The first component has a first end portion (18) terminating in a first free end region (20), a second end portion (22) terminating in a second free end region, and a mid portion (24) extending between the first and second end portions. The mid portion (24) has a first predetermined external diameter and the first end portion (18) has an external diameter which increases gradually from the first predetermined external diameter to a second predetermined external diameter at the first free end region (20). The first end portion is adapted to be pushed onto a tapered pin (26) extending from the second component (16) to a joined position. To ensure transmission of rotational forces, in the joined position the first free end region (20) of the first component extends into a generally ring-shaped socket (28) in the second component, with the socket having at least one substantially planar circumferentially and axially extending surface (30) against which a corresponding planar surface (32) extending axially from the free end (34) of the first free end region (20) abuts.
