    • An object of the invention to provide a disc autochanger without any disc reversing mechanism by using on A-side recording and reproducing apparatus and a B-side recording and reproducing apparatus while using a sheet-like optical disc in which both surfaces can be recorded and reproduced. The disc autochanger is constituted by a cartridge storing a plurality of sheet-like optical discs in which both surfaces are recorded and reproduced in a state of putting in a tray, the A-side recording and reproducing apparatus in which a moving table of an A-side recording and reproducing portion is arranged in an upper side of a tray take-out mechanism and a moving table of a cap is provided in a lower side thereof, and the B-side recording and reproducing apparatus in which a moving table of a B-side recording and reproducing portion is arranged in a lower side of the tray take-out mechanism and a moving table of a cap is provided in an upper side thereof. Accordingly, since it is possible to alternately supply the sheet-like optical discs in which both surfaces are recorded and reproduced to the A-side and B-side recording and reproducing apparatuses from the cartridge, it is possible to record and reproduce continuously and in parallel.

    • Method and apparatus for using the storage resources of a storage system effectively, thereby reducing the cost of the storage system and improving its usability. The storage system includes a first storage apparatus and a second storage apparatus. When a host writes data to a virtual volume, the data are written into a pool area. A management table associates an address in the virtual volume with a pointer indicating the data stored in the pool area. The usage amount of the pool area is monitored. When the usage amount of the pool area reaches a predetermined value, a search for available capacity is performed. An unused external volume is detected and associated with an externally connected volume. The data stored in the pool area are then copied to the externally connected volume.

    • System (software) development is performed based on a state transition diagram. The workflow of a business process is partitioned for each event therein and assigns process codes to the respective process results. A process code is an identification code to indicate a certain state of a process. For example, a process code AA is assigned to the waiting state before completion of a process A, and a process code AB is assigned to the completion state thereof wherein the process code AB is set as a condition to start a process B. The process codes that are set based on the state transition diagram are managed in an external database (DB) so that flexible modification of the state transition configuration and the state transition order is possible. This provides an entirely new method of system design that facilitates business process reengineering.

    • The invention is intended to provide a downhill speed control system which employs a method of setting a target vehicle speed in advance, thereby improving controllability when a vehicle runs down a slope, and giving an operator improved operability in setting of the target vehicle speed. Brakes are controlled so that, when the vehicle runs down the slope, an actual vehicle speed is matched with a target speed set by a switch which can set the target speed by selectively or continuously changing plural preset speeds. Also, control constants for PID control are modified depending on settings of a downslope gradient setting switch and a load setting switch. When an acceleration computed from the actual vehicle speed is larger than a target acceleration, the strength of applied brake is increased.
