    • This machine can serve as a compressor or motor and, more specifically combines a compressor and a motor to constitute an internal combustion engine with compressed air injection. A toothed rotor (12 or 54) is rotatable in a fluid displacement chamber and in sealing contact with a sealing rotor (8 or 52) having peripheral cavities for receiving the teeth (14 or 57) of the toothed rotor. Both rotors are axially curved, so as to better resist differential axial thrust exerted on the same and, therefore, maintaining better sealing contact. The teeth of the toothed rotor are generally of a hemi­spherical shape to facilitate the provision of effective sealing segments. When used as an internal combustion engine, a combined fuel injection and ignition device (27, 28, 29) is provided enclosed within a sleeve (35) rotatable within the engine housing (4), the sleeve having a lateral opening (41) which can be made to selectively register with one of two housing passages (43) opening in two adjacent fluid displacement chambers (17), with the result that the engine can be reversed by the simple rotation of the ignition device enclosing sleeve.

    • The present invention relates to an improved rotary engine having one positive motion stroke, the rotary engine comprising at least one of a piston having at least one piston vane. At least one of a unidirectional bearing is operationally coupled to the piston, wherein the piston is configured to allow the piston vane to rotate and the unidirectional bearing prevents the piston vane from rotating during a combustive force or a thrust force injection. A peddle block is positioned in the pathway of the piston vane, wherein as the piston vane approaches the peddle block a secondary exhaust pressure increases against the piston vane surface, the secondary exhaust pressure, in part, causes the piston vane to rotate and self-align for a subsequent cycle. Other exemplary embodiments allow for a secondary exhaust pressure to rotate a piston vane causing the piston vane to self-aligning for the next cycle.

    • A positive displacement pump apparatus includes a housing formed of a housing wall including a wall portion; a pump center line; a pump drive shaft extending through the wall portion coaxially with the pump center line and having a terminus within the housing adjacent the wall portion; a rotatable disc disposed in the housing adjacent the wall and secured to the terminus to be rotated by the drive shaft about the pump center line; and a vane mounted eccentrically on the disc for travel along a circular arc as the disc rotates. The vane has a vane axis about which the vane rotates relative to the disc; and two opposite, axially spaced first and second radial sides. The vane is mounted on the disc at the first radial side. The vane further has two opposite, radially spaced axial sides. The distance of the vane axis to either of the axial sides is greater than the distance from the pump center line to the vane axis. The vane also has a vane drive shaft extending from the first radial side coaxially with the vane axis. There is further provided a gearing disposed in the housing adjacent the wall portion. The gearing couples the vane drive shaft with the pump drive shaft for rotating the vane about the vane axis, whereby the vane moves, in the circular arc, through a positive displacement portion of movement and a non-positive displacement portion of movement.

    • An improved rotary combustion engine is provided with a cylindrical intake and compression housing and a cylindrical combustion and exhaust housing. Each of the housings contain variable volume spaces defined by the inner surface of elliptically shaped openings in the housings, the outer surface of a rotor within the opening, fusiform shaped pistons and end walls perpendicular to the common axis of the cylinder and the rotor. The stages are coaxial and separated by a disk valve. The rotors within each housing are attached to the engine shaft. The pistons are supported in bearings mounted in end plates which are attached to the rotors. The attitude of the pistons is controlled during engine rotation by cams at each end of the engine. A mixture of fuel and air is drawn through one of two ports into variable volume spaces in the intake and compression housing by the relative motion of rotor and pistons. Further rotation seals the spaces and compresses the mixture. Continued engine rotation causes transfer of the compressed mixture into variable volume spaces in the combustion and exhaust housing where it is ignited. Ignition of the mixture forces the pistons in the combustion housing to orbit the engine shaft and rotational force is transmitted through end plates and the combustion rotor to the shaft. Continuing rotation of the engine forces exhaust gases to be expelled through two ports in the combustion and exhaust stage.

    • The invention is an air compressor and a gas expander. The compressor/expander has an inner chamberwall-forming member attached eccentrically to a drive shaft and being rotatable with it, an outer chamberwall-forming member attached eccentrically to the drive shaft and being rotatable with it, and a plurality of stator vanes positioned concentrically about the drive shaft between the inner and outer chamberwall-forming members. The stator vanes are each rotatable about an axis extending parallel to the drive shaft. The inner and outer chamberwall-forming members and stator vanes coact to define a plurality of chambers which vary in size with the rotation of the stator vanes and the chamberwall-forming members. A stationary end wall for the compressor/expander provides a stationary end wall for each chamber, and valve means are positioned in the stationary end wall of the compressor/expander to enable the inflow and outflow of air into and out of each chamber. The invention may be combined with a combustion chamber to make a rotary engine.
