    • The invention relates to the field of X-ray differential phase contrast imaging. For scanning large objects and for an improved contrast to noise ration, an X-ray device (10) for imaging an object (18) is provided. The X-ray device (10) comprises an X-ray emitter arrangement (12) and an X-ray detector arrangement (14), wherein the X-ray emitter arrangement (14) is adapted to emit an X-ray beam (16) through the object (18) onto the X-ray detector arrangement (14). The X-ray beam (16) is at least partial spatial coherent and fan- shaped. The X-ray detector arrangement (14) comprises a phase grating (50) and an absorber grating (52). The X-ray detector arrangement (14) comprises an area detector (54) for detecting X- rays, wherein the X-ray device is adapted to generate image data from the detected X-rays and to extract phase information from the X-ray image data, the phase information relating to a phase shift of X-rays caused by the object (18). The object (18) has a region of interest (32) which is larger than a detection area of the X-ray detector (18) and the X-ray device (10) is adapted to generate image data of the region of interest (32) by moving the object (18) and the X-ray detector arrangement (14) relative to each other.

    • The present invention relates to an imaging system for imaging a region of interest comprising an illumination unit and a detection unit. The imaging system further comprises a grouping unit for grouping the detection values, wherein each group comprises at least one alpha detection value and at least one beta detection value (103). At least one alpha aperture weighting value for the at least one alpha detection value of a group is determined by using at least one position of at least one ray within the aperture (104). Furthermore, at least one beta aperture weighting value for the at least one beta detection value of a group is approximately determined using the at least one alpha aperture weighting value of the group (105). The detection values are than aperture weighted using aperture weighting values (106). The region of interest is reconstructed by backprojecting the weighted detection values (107).

The measurement data (3) comprise three types of measurement information: an absorption representing image data set A, a differential phase-contrast representing image data set D and a coherence representing image data set C. Each of the image data sets A, D and C comprises a 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional set of pixels (5) and the three image data sets are spatially aligned with each other. In the method for providing a displayable pixel data set, a colour value corresponding to a position in a 3- dimensional colour space (9) is attributed to each pixel (13) in the displayable pixel data set (11), wherein each of three coordinates HSI of the position in the 3-dimensional colour space (9) is determined based on data values A ij , D ij , C ij of a corresponding pixel (5) in a respective one of the image data sets A, D, C. For example, the coordinates within the colour space (9) may be indicated by an intensity I, a saturation S and a hue H thereby allowing a very intuitive representation of the complex DPCI measurement data to a human observer.
