    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently purify NO x in a high temperature range without requiring external electric power. SOLUTION: The subject element is composed of: a first electromotive element 1 comprising a first base body 10 made of an oxygen ion conductor, a first electrode 11 which dissociates and ionizes oxygen and draws the ion to the first base body 10, and a second electrode 12 which oxidizes a reducing gas by the oxygen ion; an extinction element 2 comprising a second base body 20 made of an oxygen ion conductor, a third electrode 21 which decomposes NO x to generate N 2 , ionizes residual oxygen and draws the ion to the second base body 20, and a fourth electrode 22 which emits the generated oxygen ion as oxygen; a conducive loop circuit 3 which electrically connects the second electrode 12 with the third electrode 21 and electrically connects the first electrode 11 with the fourth electrode 22.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To oxidise soot from a lower temperature zone. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device is provided with a basic material 1 capable of catching soot in exhaust gas, an acid compound absorbing means 2 provided on the basic material 1 to absorb an acid compound, and an acid compound desorbing means 10 for desorbing the acid compound absorbed into the acid compound absorbing means 2. A surface of soot is first oxidised to generate the acid compounds such as CO and CO 2 , which are absorbed into the acid compound absorbing means 2.
