    • A method, system and article of manufacture for data preservation. A method for preserving data during system migration includes determining which files on a computer should not be preserved, preserving all files from the computer not identified by the determining step, performing a system migration on the computer, and downloading the preserved files to the computer. The determining step may determines which files should not be preserved by applying rules that specify which files should not be preserved. A system for preserving data during system migration includes a plurality of workstation computers and a remote site server connected to the plurality of workstation computers. Each workstation computer includes a plurality of files. The remote site server includes a processor that executes instructions on a memory, the memory including instructions for preserving data during system migration.

    • A combined immobilizing and steering column control system for a vehicle includes a device, a steering wheel, and a vehicle immobilizing system. The device has a transponder for transmitting an identification signal. The steering wheel includes controls and a first inductor. The first inductor transmits a control signal for controlling a vehicle function in response to a corresponding steering wheel control being actuated. The immobilizing system has a second inductor and a controller. The second inductor is operable to sense the identification signal transmitted by the transponder and to sense a control signal transmitted by the first inductor. The controller performs a vehicle immobilizing function in response to the second inductor sensing an identification signal transmitted by the transponder. The controller enables the vehicle function corresponding to an actuated steering wheel control in response to the second inductor sensing the corresponding control signal transmitted by the first inductor.

    • An alternate display content controller provides a technique for controlling a video display separately from and in addition to the content displayed on the operating system monitor. Where the display is a computer monitor, the alternate display content controller interacts with the computer utility operating system and hardware drivers to control allocation of display space and create and control one or more parallel graphical user interfaces adjacent the operating system desktop. An alternate display content controller may be incorporated in either hardware or software. As software, an alternate display content controller may be an application running on the computer operating system, or may include an operating system kernel of varying complexity ranging from dependent on the utility operating system for hardware system services to a parallel system independent of the utility operating system and capable of supporting dedicated applications. The alternate display content controller may also include content and operating software delivered over the internet or any other LAN.     • An improvement in a method of bonding copper and a resin together wherein a copper oxide layer is formed on the surface of copper by the oxidation of metallic copper, the copper oxide layer is reduced to metallic copper with an aqueous reducing solution containing at least one amine borane represented by the general formula: BH3NHRR′ (wherein R and R′ are each a member selected from the group consisting of H, CH3, and CH2CH3), and the metallic copper is bonded to a resin. According to the improvement, a reducing stabilizer is added to the reducing solution in an amount sufficient to decrease consumption of the amine borane during reduction to a level less than that consumed in the absence of the reducing stabilizer during the course of the copper oxide reduction process, wherein the stabilized reduction process is initiated in a reasonable time and the metallic copper layer resulting from the stabilized reduction process is resistant to acid attack. Examples of such reducing stabilizers include thio-containing (—C(═S)NH2) compounds, triazole-containing (C2H3N3) compounds, isoxazole-containing (—C3HNO) compounds, thiazole-containing (—NCS—) compounds, imidazole-containing (—NCN—) compounds, and sulfone-containing (—SO3H) compounds.
